Dear List, My ancestor Margaret MEREDITH and her sister Sophia were baptized in Brilley Parish Church in 1822. Their sister Mary followed in 1825. Their parents were James MEREDITH, a labourer and later a farmer, and Mary (maiden surname unknown). I have found no trace of the marriage of James and Mary Meredith or any baptisms of other children. The marriage of James Meredith (Gent.) to Mary Jones in Clifford in 1817 has been discounted leaving no alternative. 'My' Mary was born in Abbey Dore in about 1778 (according to the 1851 census). I have found a marriage of a James Meredith to a Mary Cox in 1812 in Monnington-on-Wye which is between Brilley and Abbey Dore. This couple baptized a son James in Monnington the same year. Margaret Meredith (bap. 1822) was first married in Eardisley in August 1841 to a Richard POWIS. Could her father have been of the Eardisley Merediths that include a James baptized in 1780? That James had children including a William (married in Eardisley in 1842) a! nd an Ann Meredith. Any possible pieces of information, no matter how insignificant they may seem, would be much appreciated, especially the whereabouts of the family in the census of June 1841 and any suggestions as to the whereabouts of the marriage entry and James and Mary's origins.
