I would like to introduce myself as I am new this list. I have known for some years now that my great-grandfather was born in HEF. Until I found him on the 1861 Census of GLS I did not know where in HEF. That census stated his parish of birth was: Hereford - Huntly I have been unable to find such a place in my Road Atlas, Phillimores Atlas or internet and was wondering if in fact it was the Huntley that is in Gloucestershire now. Did the boundaries change during the 1800's or 1900's ? Perhaps someone can enlighten me. A little more about him is that his name is Thomas HIGGINS and his father was a William HIGGINS He was born somewhere between about 1825 and 1837 I think. Every entry I find of him on the 1861, 1871 and 1881 Censuses and his Marriage Certificate (second marriage) shows a different age. I have not located him since the 1881 Census when he was in Little Dean in GLS with his 2nd wife and family. My next step will be to look at the Parish Registers covering Whitecroft in GLS because he appears to have had a son, James, born there about 1859, probably to his first wife. Hope someone can put me right about where Huntly is.
