Hi there Listers, I am a newcomer to the list and would like to post my interests. Prior to this posting I searched the Hereford List archives and made contact with David Porter who has been very helpful in seeking out some of the following. I have James Robertson Porter marrying 21 September 1895 Mary Beatrice Stooke at All Saints church in Hereford. On their marriage certificate he is described as a civil engineer aged 31 of Newport, Monmouth, and his 27 year old bride, from Aylestone Hill, Hereford was the daughter of Edwin Stooke, Estate Agent, and his wife Frances Mary Stooke, (née Hellyar). Edwin had married Mary 17 January 1866 at St Merryn, Cornwall, and Mary Beatrice Stooke was born the following year (date unknown) in Hereford, where the family seems to have lived from then on. The 1881 Census lists the family at “The Cedars”, Ailstone Hill in Hereford. According to the Hereford Monumental Index Mary died in 1943, aged 76, and was buried in Hereford Cemetery, Section 1.
