Dear Bryan, Contrary to what Janice said, no pre-1837 marriages give the father's name, as I'm sure you'll know. However, a marriage of this date will say what parish he was of. If it was a parish different from that in which the marriage took place then that may be a clue to his parish of origin. However, it would certainly be worthwhile checking the baptism records of every adjoining parish as people then moved about far more than we today imagine. He might have originated only a mile away but in a totally different parish. Best wishes James
