    1. [HEF] STEPHENS OR WILLIAMS????
    2. David HALL
    3. hi all I hope someone might be able to offer some answers to this problem.... My great grandmother was Daisy BEER (her married name), born in ross-on-Wye in 1897 (died 1978). I recently found her in the 1901 census as follows Frederick WILLIAM (S) (no s but may be an error) aged 29 born in Ross wife Sarah aged 28 (nee BULLOCK) bn in Ross Jack son aged 6 Daisy aged 4 I know that Daisy had a brother called Alan STEVENS (which i now assume to be a step brother). However I have just received some copies of certificates from a family member as follows Baptism of Daisy WILLIAMS born 27th March 1897, baptised 8th August 1903, parents Frederick and Sarah WILLIAMS. Also Daisy's marriage certificate 10th November 1918 in Newport, Monmouthshire Daisy STEPHENS father Frederick STEPHENS married Albert Henry BEER This has totally thrown me!! The family member said that there was confusion with the surname because Frederick had a stepfather and step brothers. Why would he change his surname (and his daughter's) after he'd married?? Where can i find an account of the name change?? And the difference in the STEPHENS/STEVENS surname. Could there be 2 Frederick's??? Any help will be greatly appreciated regards dave
