Further to my previous plea for help - I spent a profitable time yesterday on the 1901 and found several bits and pieces but the Matilda Care mystery continues. I am working from a photocopy of the original but for the sheer heck of it I tried to find Matilda on the 1901 site by asking for any female Cares born in Herefordshire - only one showed up and definitely not Matilda. I then managed to track down the Powell entry for St Margarets and there she was, large as life and definitely a Care born in Herefordshire. Strangely though the writing of the C of Care doesn't appear to match any other capital C's on the page - in fact it doesn't appear to be like any other letters at all, so I am totally stumped until I manage to trace her marriage.
