I am seeking information on John Pye, b. c. 1463, The Mynde (in or near Much Dewchurch). He was the son of John Pye and Ann de la Bere. He is supposedly the progenitor of the Cornwall Pyes. He apparently went there at some point in time. Information I have, gathered by a cousin long ago (bc - before computers), says he married Elizabeh Courtenay, d/o Sir Hugh and Margaret Carminow Courtenay. The only Elizabeth I can find who belongs to this couple, did not marry John Pye, at least not according to the the records I have seen. My cousin failed to note his sources for this information so I have no idea where he found this reference. He has since passed away so I cannot ask him. It could be a second marriage for Elizabeth but I haven't found that record. From the St. Stephen's in Brannel section of "The History of Cornwall", p. 162: "The manor of Bodenick, anciently the property of the Carminows of Boconnoc and Courtenays, was sold by the Pye family to John Tanner, Esq. who made the manor his place of residence. This manor is the property of the Hon. G. M Fortescue." This John Pye and Elizabeth Courtenay supposedly had a daughter named Barbara who married a George Tanner. The statement from the Cornwall History certainly seems to support a connection between the Carminows, Courtenays, Tanners and Pyes. Does anyone know anything about this John Pye??
