I have traced part of my family back to Henry COURTEEN who married Sarah Hughes in Dixton, Monmouthshire in 1785, but have now hit a brick wall. There is a reference to COURTEEN in Monnington-on-Wye where a Richard COURTEEN was married in 1775 and his son, Richard was baptised in 1776. I can find no other references to the name in this part of England, but, since the surname is so uncommon, I feel there must be a connection. Has anyone out there come across the name elsewhere in Herefordshire so I can, perhaps, link my COURTEENs to others? Michael Williamson, Cambridge, UK.
