Hi all, New member to list. My ancestors carry the surname Hereford and come from Sufton Court in Hereford, Herefordshire. We believe our ancestor James Hereford who came to Virginia in the mid-1600's is the patriarch for all the Herefords in the United States. We know there are still Herefords at Sufton Court (not our direct family) and some of us (not me, unfortunately) went there last summer to visit... My question is: How I can find info for our U.S. Herefords from Hereford in the 1600's and before? Need recommendations! --on-line records from Hereford ? --places to write for info? --good books on the period? --genealogists willing to do deep research? --a volunteer? someone in Hereford willing to help find records? We have a U.S. Hereford reunion scheduled in June in Texas. I can't attend, darn it, but my parents will be there. My mom s maiden name was Hereford so I want to present her with anything I can find to take with her--it's a Mother's Day present! I host the Hereford (surname) list at Rootsweb and collect and share what I can thru that list and on the web (looking up "Hereford" mostly brings up cattle references!) I work hard at it from this end and have a lot of U.S. Hereford connections. I'm happy to share if anyone's interested...BUT I could really use some help from "home"! Can anyone offer suggestions? websites? books? assistance? Anything appreciated! thank you, Cyndi in Baltimore (MD)
