Hello again Adrian Herewith (at last!) the answer to your original Marriage Look-up request, posted to the Hereford list on 27 November 2001 :- Little Birch Parish Church, Herefordshire. Marriage Register 15 September 1874. John CORDY aged 65, widower, grocer, resident Little Birch. Father's name John CORDY, gardener. to Ellen CROMPTON, aged 56, widow, resident Little Birch. Father's name James POWELL, labourer. (John signed, Ellen made mark). Witnesses :- William TRAHERN, Susan TRAHERN. Had another look for Samuel CORDY/CORDING. Not in the 1851 Census Index for Herefordshire, so either not in the county or (as I suggested in my last e-mail) in hospital "incognito". I'm not aware of a complete list of pre-1837 Herefordshire marriages held either in the Herefordshire Record Office or anywhere else. No doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong in this. Hope I've been of some help. Reposting interests for new listers! Hello listers ! I'm seeking ancestors & descendants of John SEAL, born ca 1786, who may be the second son named below. "Our" John immigrated to Canada & received land as a discharged private from the 10th Regiment of Foot in 1832 and was a Chelsea Pensioner from Heredfordshire, England, aka 'HEF'. John has been truly elusive. I suspect the below family of James & Margaret SEAL due to 1) the proximity to Dewchurch (Little) in HEF where military records indicate he is from and 2) that John's daughters were named Mary & Sarah in Canada. (I know, grasping at straws here!!) Looking for any trace of Peter SEAL(S/ES), born ca 1789, 'of England', who sold John SEAL's widow, Elizabeth some land in Medonte, Simcoe, Canada ca 1869.. Peter may have taken part in an immigration scheme such as the "Canada Company" circa 1832 . We have Peter's obituary & some Canadian land records & census records to indicate he may be connected to John of HEF, but is not found in military records to date. John or Peter may have connections to the following family: James SEAL m. Margaret HOLTOM/HOLTON in May 1789 in Hampton Bishop or Callow, HEF. . Children: 1) William SEAL chr. May 30, 1790 in Mordiford, HEF 2) John SEAL chr. Dec. 19, 1790 in Mordiford, HEF 3) Mary SEAL chr. Sept. 29, 1793 in Fownhope With Fawleye, HEF 4) Sarah SEAL chr. Aug. 14, 1796 in Fownhope With Fawleye, HEF. TIA Barb Spicer
