Hi from Queensland. Australia. Can any of the listers help regarding the area / village of WINSLOW as declared as birth place in 1891 census for WILLIAM SAMPSON born about 1820. I have checked out an ordnance map for 1832 but have not found any reference. I have also checked an ordnance map for 1947 and found a WINSLOW just south of EDVIN RALF (EDWIN RALF on modern maps) on the Tenbury Wells - Bromyard Road. On this 1947 map it appears to be an area rather than a village location. I would like to find a local church that may "house parish records" for WILLIAM SAMPSON . Would appreciate any input. regards Keith Researching Names in Worcester.DARKE: PRICE: TYLER: WEAVER CHANCE:SMITH: CLAYTON SAMPSON Stafford: DITCHFIELD:BATES Pembroke Dock, Wales: DAVIES Gloucester: DAVIS Ireland: NOLAN Leicestershire: BATES Hereford: SAMPSON Keith & Jan Price...Worcester born, marooned in tropical Australia
Hi Keith As I live in Edwyn Ralph (note modern spelling!) I hope I can answer your question. Winslow is one of the townships which make up the extensive parish of Bromyard, originally one of the Saxon Minster churches. Therefore you should find the entries you require in the parish registers for Bromyard, assuming of course that they were Church of England and not Non-Conformist!
