    3. My ancestor Thomas THOR(N)TON, the son of Samuel THORTON, labourer was married in Llanbedr Painscastle (South Rads.) in 1840 while in his mid-to-late 30's (odd for a first marriage) to a bride of 20. In the 1841 census he is listed as 'NOT born in Radnorshire' while on every other census in which he appears (1851-71) he says he was born in Presteigne, Radnorshire. After checking the Presteigne parish registers from 1802-6 (he was born circa 1803/4) but without finding his baptism I resigned myself to the idea that I would never find him considering the conflicting known information and without any other possible sources. Now it seems that the places of birth given in the census entries can be reconciled. The 1841 'No' coupled with the subsequent specific place of 'Presteigne' seems to suggest that he was born in Herefordshire very near to Presteigne but in another neighbouring parish in which case he would have been baptized/registered in the records of that parish. The only question is where? Does anyone have any record of this family name or information about possible parishes? Best wishes and thanks James
