    1. [HEF] Need info on Albert William Vivian
    2. Hello, everyone. I posted a few months ago trying to find out my grandfather's 'real' name because we thought he took the name of an American family he stayed with when he came to the U.S. We just found out by accident that his name was Albert William Vivian. We always knew him as Albert William Murrell. Mr. Vivian was probably born in 1895, definitely in Herefordshire, probably either in Clehonger or Weobley. He had a brother named Charlie or Charles Vivian, and a son named Leonard Vivian. Leonard might still be alive, possibly living in Woonton. Would someone be able to look up Albert W. Vivian on the census or birth index? Possibly even in old police or prison records? We're trying to find out who his parents were, and to figure out why he changed his name when he emigrated to America. He came to the U.S. as an adult, and stayed with a family named Murrell. It's possible that the Murrells may have come to the U.S. from England at an earlier date. Albert Vivian took the Murrell name for himself, and we don't know why. He served in the United States Army in World War I. I also couldn't figure out why he didn't stay in England and fight in the British Army. He married Florence Lena Sayce, also from Clehonger, Herefordshire, in the U.S. in the 1920's. Albert died in, I think, 1956. We want to find out if there was some kind of scandal we never knew about, like maybe had he been a 'wanted man' in England, and came to America to escape. My father is David Murrell. David is Albert's son. My grandmother Florence obviously knew the story behind why he changed his name, and so, we think, does my aunt, but she won't tell anyone, and Florence died in 1994. I'd greatly appreciate any help or suggestions anyone has for where I could start looking or if anyone could search for me if it isn't too complicated. I'm in the U.S.A. and can't come to England myself. Thank you.
