Hello Linda, Wonder if they were perhaps from away as cannot see a Jesse in the area. Think you are correct and Jesse male. Many thanks for your reply. If you come across a person with that name in your hunt please think of me! Thanks Judy for the info - that does all tie in - but shall have to investigate the Sarah baptism. "Do you happen to have a JESSE and NEELIE GREEN who appear as witnesses on my grandparents marriage certificate 1924 Ross? Do not know if Jesse male or female." Patsy - I haven't much info on the Greens as I wasn't sure how Maria fitted in. There were quite a few Green families in the area. I have found in my tree that Jesse was male and Jessie female but of course that is not taking into consideration people not knowing how to spell it! Linda
Linda, When I look at some marriages and births of some Jesse Green's, they are male. Hope that helps. I don't see any reference to Jesse and Nellie together. Dear All Still searching for my elusive great grandmother Maria GREEN born c1857 (ages are different on every census, marriage, death certificate and grave!) I cannot find a birth registered for her. I can only find the birth of her illegitimate brother Cornelius Phelps 1851 and one of her sisters Elizabeth in 1855 in Ross. There is a family that I think is correct in 1861 census and if so her parents would be John (Jonathon) GREEN and Ann PHELPS. Does anyone have access to the PRs of Bridstow to look for the baptism of Maria GREEN c1857? Thank you so much Linda

John - I've made some educated guesses, and came up with Joseph marrying Mary Heskins 10 NOV 1792 in Horsley, Gloucester. Their daughter Sarah's first daughter is named Mary. In 1841 Joseph and Mary are living in Chepstow.
