    2. Dear Debbie Herefordshire is a county in the middle of England, Somerset and Devon are in the South so I don't think the boundaries changed that much! I haven't looked at the map but possibly should be Hertfordshire. Regards Anne

    3. Hi listers... I feel rather silly asking this but does anyone know if the county boundaries changed at some point? I ask because according an 1881 census, Broadway was listed in Somerset yet I now find it in Herefordshire. Also, Tarrington was listed in Devon and I now find it in Herefordshire. Can SKS please set the record straight for me? Thank you :-) Sincerely, Debbi - a naive American

    1. [HEF] GRUBHAM - WYLES
    2. Margaret Fitzgerald
    3. My great grandfather Thomas GRUBHAM was born at BOSBURY according to 1891 Census and lived with his family at 92 Bath Street, Hereford. My grandmother Emily Elizabeth GRUBHAM was married in 1885 to Frederick Jones WYLES and was not living at home by that date. I have tried to find my great grandfather on 1881 Census but cannot. My query is "was BOSBURY at that time in Herefordshire or perhaps in another County". Would anyone have access to any previous Census where I might find my grandmother listed. She would have been born about 1868 and her father Thomas GRUBHAM according to 1891 Census about 1842.I was in Hereford in 1971 and I remember that were quite a number of "GRUBHAMS" listed at the Hereford Town Hall as "Freeman of the City". Unfortunately all the papers with names Have been lost and perhaps somebody may be able to help me with this information. Thank you to anyone who can help me. Margaret N.S.W. Australia

    3. Hello John I see that someone has already e-mailed you to advise that a Lavinia SWAIN is listed on FreeBMD as born in Leominster in 1860. (Presumably you know how to proceed from there?). In case you're interested, the Yarpole parish registers have the baptism of a Lavinia SWAIN on 3rd March 1861, father Richard SWAIN, labourer, mother Hannah. Abode Bircher Common. 1. [HEF] UK Transcriptions site
    2. I would like to bring to your attention a new site which may be of help to you. It is called the "UK Transcriptions Web Site" and is being run by Malcolm Platt-Grigg, who is a member of the STS and Black Country lists to name but two. The idea came about following discussions on the Black Country list. Basically if you have ever made any transcriptions from Census, Parish records, MI's, Electoral rolls, etc., then they can be posted to this site as an aid for all of us. You will note that at the moment, the transcriptions are confined to Midlands counties. However, Malcolm would like to extend it to include all of the UK. I have his permission to publicise the site on the lists I belong to in order that the information on the site can be extended. It is not a commercial site, there are no pop-ups and Malcolm is to be congratulated (I think) for setting this up. The address is: http://uk-transcriptions.accessgenealogy.com/ Hope that you find this useful. Regards Linda ......We are not always what we seem to be.......... 2. Margaret Grundy
    3. Hi List this is my first message on this list so here's hoping....... I have been searching for the death of my 3xgreat grandfather GEORGE KEARN for a long time. He was possibly born in NEW TOWN WALES but to help prove this fact I need to find his death. he married Ann Watkins of little Birch in TIBBERTON in 1813. Their children were born in TIBBERTON but I cannot find his death there. His last child was born in 1833 so it would be after that......have spent hours at the family records center without success so I feel it's before 1837. I found his wife on the 1851 census in STRETTON SUGWAS H/shire staying with her son .She does not say she is a widow just a visitor aged 61 years.Really need to find this death to be able to except family info. given to me relating to New town.WALES. GEORGE was a timber merchant in Tibberton does anyone have a trade directory which might help me to place him away from T/ton.? Any information or advice as to where to go from here will be gratefully received. Regards Margaret in ESSEX

    3. I have searched in vain for a marriage in Lincolnshire of my ancestor James ROGERS to "Civil/Seville/Sivel/etc" circa 1730. A kind lister pointed out that a James ROGERS married Sibyl DEVREUX in Fownhope with Fawleye in 1729. The names and dates are fine, but the location seems a long way off. Does anyone know if there was an established ROGERS family in that area, as I know mine was Lincs. born? I'd be glad of any help. Cheers, Liz Davies
