    2. Janet Pugh
    3. Hello everyone, I have an ancester William LECHMERE who was a Church of England Clergyman in 1901. As I am having great difficulty tracing his career and movements I would be most grateful if anyone has a copy of Crockfords Clerical Directory covering the late 1800s/early 1900s and would be kind enough to look up the name LECHMERE in it. I have copied the request to the lists covering the counties where LECHMEREs occured, in the hope that it may increase the chances of a reply. I understand that the Directories are few and far between. Many thanks and kind regards, --- Janet (nee Lechmere)

    1. [HEF] Help needed for area
    2. Keith Price
    3. Hi from Queensland. Australia. Can any of the listers help regarding the area / village of WINSLOW as declared as birth place in 1891 census for WILLIAM SAMPSON born about 1820. I have checked out an ordnance map for 1832 but have not found any reference. I have also checked an ordnance map for 1947 and found a WINSLOW just south of EDVIN RALF (EDWIN RALF on modern maps) on the Tenbury Wells - Bromyard Road. On this 1947 map it appears to be an area rather than a village location. I would like to find a local church that may "house parish records" for WILLIAM SAMPSON . Would appreciate any input. regards Keith Researching Names in Worcester.DARKE: PRICE: TYLER: WEAVER CHANCE:SMITH: CLAYTON SAMPSON Stafford: DITCHFIELD:BATES Pembroke Dock, Wales: DAVIES Gloucester: DAVIS Ireland: NOLAN Leicestershire: BATES Hereford: SAMPSON Keith & Jan Price...Worcester born, marooned in tropical Australia

    3. Hi Keith As I live in Edwyn Ralph (note modern spelling!) I hope I can answer your question. Winslow is one of the townships which make up the extensive parish of Bromyard, originally one of the Saxon Minster churches. Therefore you should find the entries you require in the parish registers for Bromyard, assuming of course that they were Church of England and not Non-Conformist! 3. Hi listers Memorials of Old Herefordshire - A new Herefordshire resource on CD from The Archive Books Project. Published in 1904 this is a wonderful history of the ancient county of Herefordshire dating from Roman times. 3. Hello Listers Many thanks to all who sent me suggestion for finding my great-grandmother's Christening date. I tried various things but then received a wonderful offer from Leon Knapper to actually search the records for me. Leon not only found my Ellen Ann Knight in the 1861 Census, but supplied me with her whole family and the family next-door, who appeared to be related to her mother (a Gittins). Then he found the Baptism Records of all the children (including two I had not known of at all!) - plus another possible relative on the Knight side. The kindness of "Listers" is overwhelming! A huge vote of thanks to Leon (I have written to him separately) for so much information and to everyone who continues to help me. This must also include Sue, who has found a record of yet another relative - this time on the Colton/Bytheway side (Ellen Ann Knight married a Edward Colton and Sue found, we think, his brother Thomas, who married Rebecca Bytheway) - and Sue has kindly bought the record for me and is mailing it! Thanks a million, everyone! I am elated! I wish everyone as much help and luck as I receive. Jan in Winnipeg (where we also received a glimse of Spring this week - at last)

    2. Kate
    3. [This message is being sent to both the HEREFORD and the MIDMARCH mailing lists - so if you subscribe to both, my apologies for clogging up your inbox!] Hi folks! If anyone has access to the 1871 or 1891 census folios for the area covering Bye Street, Ledbury, I would really appreciate a look-up on the following family: ------------------------------------------------------------ 1881 Census Place: Ledbury, Hereford, England Dwelling: Cottages, Bye Street Source: FHL Film: 1341622 PRO Ref: RG11 Piece: 2582 Folio: 73 Page: 49 ------------------------------------------------------------ COX EDWARD Head M 36 M General Labourer GLS Tewkesbury COX LOUISA Wife M 34 F ---------- HEF Ledbury * COX THOMAS Son U 14 M Labourer HEF Ledbury COX ANNE Daur U 11 F Scholar HEF Ledbury COX ROSANNAH Daur U 08 F Scholar HEF Ledbury COX THOMAS Son U 03 M Scholar HEF Ledbury COX CAROLINE Daur U 01 F ---------- HEF Ledbury ** ------------------------------------------------------------ * nee Louisa BAKER, christened on 21 Jan 1846 in Ledbury, to William BAKER & Mary Ann (nee BIRT?). ** my great-grandmother, later Mrs Henry WILLAVIZE, Mrs SMITH (Oooh - isn't he going to be easy to find!), and lastly, Mrs David MORGAN. In 1871, there ought to be a couple of older daughters still at home (Paulina (Polly), Mrs POWELL, & Mary Ann, Mrs WILLIAMS). By 1891, another 5 or 6 of the extensive brood might have appeared (Arthur, Ginny, Edith (Edie), Elsie, Gladys, Lily, and perhaps others). By 1901, most of the COX family might have disappeared off to Dukestown & Tafarnaubach in Breconshire, or neighbouring Tredegar in Monmouthshire, but that tribal migration might have occurred a couple of years later! If you know anything at all about this family, I'd love to hear from you! x Kate.

    1. [HEF] There is a new Waring Family message board.
    2. Hi. I just wanted to let you know that I have set up a new board room for the Waring family researchers.  The Waring families have always claimed to be connected, lets share our information and find out how. We are concentrating on trying to get into touch with others that are researching the same lines, and breaking down the walls that we have run across.  Would you like to join us?  You don't have to sign in, and the messages are kept for 60 days so check back frequently. http://pluto.beseen.com/boardroom/t/57567/ Sincerely, Renee Waring
