Hi I am hoping to find the location in Hereford of these two births, and the area to check in the 1871 census for the two places above. Mary Jane Stroud was born 05/10/1867 at Cook Buildings. Her birth was registered by Maria Wilmot, Occupier , Cook Buildings, Hereford. Alice Kate Stroud was born 06/10/1870 at Moorfields. Her birth was registered by Ellen Stroud, Mother, Moorfields, Hereford. Any help on either question would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time. David Wiltshire
I'm posting this to all the lists I'm on, apologies to those who have to read this more than once. I'm looking for someone living in Berkshire, hopefully in/near Crowthorne. I've found the following gentleman doing a HERITAGE One-Name-Study. I'd love to contact him, and am too impatient to try snail mail. If someone could call him, and give him my email address, I'd like to correspond with him regarding my HERITAGE surname. Please contact me if you're able/willing to do this. Hello, I'm trying to track down more information on William Stratford Dobles, b abt 24 June 1814 in Goodrich, Hereford(Christening record)(parents - William Stratford Dobles and Hester Collins.). In the 1851 Census, he's listed as 30, unmarried and working as an assistant to Francis Braithwais(t)e, an RCS of London, Licentiate of Apothecaries in the area of St. Nicholas, Hereford city. By 1871, William S Dobles is listed as a dispenser. In 1877, he's working as a dispenser in the Hereford Infirmary. He died in 1877 in Hereford. I was hoping that someone could check the directories of Hereford for the period 1845 to 1877 to see if there is any listing for William Dobles as a dispenser or apothecary or pharmacist. I still need to explore the birth date issue; 1814 versus 1821 (1851 census less age). Also, I hope to be able to track down his whereabouts in the 1861 and 1871 census. I have his will, but the only relationship is to his widowed sister, Mary Elizabeth Byrne. There is a James Collins listed as a witness who might be a nephew/cousin as William Dobles mother is a Hester Collins. The only info. on the parents is an IGI marriage record. Any help is appreciated on this impasse. Thanks, Barry

Hello to everyone I went along to the Gwent FHS Open Day yesterday, at County Hall, Cwmbran, I took my mother along for company, we had a great time there! Everyone was very helpful and friendly. We had a tour of the newly refurbished RO. The difference is amazing. Can't wait to do some research there! (When I can get the time, that is!). I would like to thank the person I spoke to, from the Hereford FHS, regarding finding proof of the connection of Charles Gwillim and my GGGrandfather William Gwilliam. (Some of you may know from my earlier postings of this). Also to Carol O'Niel, who was also there. We had a bit of a chat, and I am now waiting to hear from her, also about the Gwilliam research. I am also researching:- Bright (St Giles in the Wood, Devon, 1830's) - Birkin (Streatham 1800-1830) - Daniel (Mary Ann-Trevethin?, 1840's) - Friend ( Possibly Streatham, 1840-1846) - Keeping (Possibly Sarah? again in Streatham) - Griffiths (Mary, born in Llangattock Carmarthen 1849/50 and married William Gwilliam)- Thomas (James, married Mary ann Daniel). So if anyone of you know of these, I would love to hear from you. Kind regards Hazel http://gizzmowales.tripod.com/
Hi Cliff, Dan, John (and anyone else who's tried to access my 1901 transcriptions), Thanks for the messages. I'm sorry to any of you who've had problems getting to the site. The main problem, as Cliff has also pointed out, is to do with the link I posted having wrapped around onto a second line. It is important to make sure the extra part is added on properly without any 'hidden characters' such as line feeds or carriage returns. (All my outgoing mail wraps at 76 characters, irrespective of the window size when it's written. This is the default for plain text, and is recommended to enable those with line-oriented mail systems to read the mail easily.) John - I've checked all of the "Try Here" links and they all seem to be working properly. I can only suggest it was a temporary problem, perhaps with ntl itself. Thank you, Dan, for linking to the site from the HerefordshireGenWeb. I'd notified Rosemary for the Herefordshire genuki pages, but hadn't thought of the GenWeb. I'll let you know if there are any changes to the site. Regards Barbara Griffiths Coventry UK

(rest snipped for brevity) Which I guess is where you expect folk to get to so it's reassuring. However, still isn't good that the "Try here" link on a previous page took me to a 404 Error message :( John -- Website Provider/Webmaster, UK Rock Challenge (http://www.rockchallenge.co.uk)

Hi Ann, I'm not sure what the problem is, particularly if you've added the extra part. The pages do come up when I look. One other person said they had the same problem, but were then able to access it. Perhaps it is still something to do with the link. In which case try this one, which is a default page and there's a link on there to take you to the census indexes: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/im.griffiths/parryfamilyhistory/ Can you let me know how you get on please, especially since you use netscape. As I said, I hadn't been able to test it on other browsers. Hi Barb and Ann, I discovered there was an illegal "line feed" in the URL you had posted 6/21/2002. When I copied and pasted the last part of the URL, I still got a 404 error, but if I typed the last part in it worked. I copied the URL when I was at the page and here it is. This one should work properly: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/im.griffiths/parryfamilyhistory/parrycensus/coverage.htm The non-working URL would just have been a result of the size of your window when you made the post. Your email application added the line feed because it didn't fit on one line when you were typing the message. Just in case anyone is interested, I have posted a transcription of the 1901 census for Walterstone and Rowlstone onto the web. They can be accessed from - http://homepage.ntlworld.com/im.griffiths/parryfamilyhistory/parrycensus/cov erage.htm (sorry about the long link - you'll need to add the last part back on) Usual 'warnings' about not relying on transcriptions and to check the original details yourself (when you can!!) - I've obviously been as careful as I can, but mistakes do happen. It is my first attempt at writing webpages and I haven't been able to test them on a variety of browsers, but hopefully they are simple enough to work for everyone. If you do have any problems please let me know. Regards Barbara Griffiths at bm.griffiths@ntlworld.com Coventry UK
