Dear All, I'm not sure I agree with those who say the Merricks/Meyricks are very difficult to trace! There are still a few Merricks in Herefordshire - several families in Clehonger, Madley and Hereford City who I believe are related to me. I've been lucky enough to inherit my grandfather's and uncle's researches so perhaps I've found it easier than most. These are the Merricks I know about: Walter Meyrick m Martha Walter Merricke bap 1668 Aymestrey m Mary Pye 1704 Children: John (a sergeant in Sir Robert Rich's regiment of dragoons) b 1706 Elizabeth b 1705, Artimodorus (died young), Artimona, ARISTARCHUS Merrick b 1710, bap 1711 Thruxton, m 1 Mary Hullett m 2 Elizabeth Fennell. Aristarchus had the following children that I know of: JOHN (bap 1737), Arnold (moved to Cirencester), Aristarchus, William (lived at Thruxton, m Elizabeth, children William bap 1789, Judith 1794, Arnold 1801). John Merrick married Susanna Baker at Much Dewchurch in 1763 and they both lived until the 1820s, dying at the ages of 88 and 92. Their final home was Turner's House in Kingstone. They had six children who survived infancy: John (1764), James (1765), Richard (1773), Charlotte (b1775, married the Rev James Garbett), Ann (1768, married William Parry) and ARNOLD.(1769). Arnold married Margaret Baugh, who I believe may have been the daughter of William Baugh, the Kingstone village blacksmith. They had, as far as I can determine, three children: Thomas (1795), Charlotte (1790) and ARNOLD (1804). This Arnold was my great-great grandfather and in later years was known as Arnold Garbett Meyrick. This is all the information I have at the moment, although I think my grandfather did manage to trace more of John and Susanna Merrick's descendants so I'll look those up and add them to a later e-mail. I hope this may help someone - if any of the names look familiar, do get in touch! Hi leisters Is their SKS who can help? I am searching for the marriage of Edmund WARING & Jane ? On the 1851 census Mrs Jane Waring's birthplace quoted as Bodenham, Edmund was born in Hereford. Also searching for Jane ? & Edmund Waring baptism's and parent's. 1851 Census Cheltenham 18-51 (37) Edmunds Waring (Head) 78 years Labourer born Hereford Jane Edmund (wife) 76 years Bodenham. Many thanks, any help would be much appreciated. David Scott
Hello Gerald Thank you so much for your reply - it gives me a slightly different listing of the Card family, which I will now have to research further. I had an Emily Dukes Card baptized 7 Nov 1843 - she seems to have been Robert Michael's sister (he was born in Monmouth, we think, in 1834 or 35). Since he married Fanny Eleanor Morgan in 1855, it seems possible that there were other children before the 1858 birth of Hannah Maria but, from your information, it appears that this Emily Dukes Card was a sister (twin?) to Hannah Maria. Also you have some different place names. The Frederic William on your list is new to us, too. Gertrude Mary was my husband's grandmother. We attended the interment of the last of Clement John Card's children just last week. All of his family is buried in the beautiful Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa, Manitoba (Canada). Can the VR be searched on the net? It seems a good place for me to be looking. I am a transcriber for freeBMD - so I keep and eye on their listings - and I use familysearch a lot. When time permits, I visit my local LDS Family History Centre - but usually have to special order records to search. Hugh Wallis' website is an enormous help - but sometimes the dates or districts just aren't there. Thanks again - I think these LISTS are great and I have received some wonderful help and advice from feloow-researchers and "Listers". Regards Jan Jones Winnipeg
Hi Listers I am new to the Hereford list & this is my first posting. I have found that I have ancestors who were from Hereford, previously, my ancestors were from Monmouthshire. I am researching: Harriet WILLET/WILLETT c1824 Garway/St Weonards, Her. James WILLET <father of the above from Harriet's Marriage certificate> Elizabeth WILLET <witness of the above marriage> Maria WILLET/WILLETT c1800 Garway ? (mother? of the above Harriet) married in St Weonards, Her. Chr. in Garway.Her. Sarah WILLETT (mother of Maria, Garway, Her.?) Also from the other side of the Family, James JENKINS c1806 Whitchurch, Her. I have no earlier information about him or who his parents were.<He was married to Mary Ann Mathews in 1837, Skenfrith, Monmouthshire>. I was given the information that Harriet was born to Maria WILLET & then Maria WILLET (spinster) married John MORRIS, <8/11/1830, St Weonards, Her>, six years after the birth of Harriet. When Harriet WILLET (spinster) was married to John THOMAS 1/5/1843 in Monmouth, Mon, her father was given as James WILLET, Labourer & Elizabeth WILLET was a witness. Earlier than this I was given the information that Maria WILLETT (Harriet's mother) was the daughter of Sarah WILLETT (also no father mentioned) If anyone has any information about any of these people I would be very grateful, Kindest regards, Gill Cope, Perth, Western Australia.

Seeking Birth or Christening dates (IGI Batch numbers would help) for the following: Hannah Maria(h) CARD, believed born in Shrewsbury, Salop, about 28 Aug 1858 - daughter of Robert Michael Card and Fanny Eleanor (Morgan) CARD. Gertrude Mary (or Maria) CARD, believed born in Ross, Hereford about 1862 - daughter of Robert Michael and Fanny Eleanor (Morgan) CARD. and their sisters and brothers: Fanny Eleanor Robert William Osmund Clement John Clara Louise - all thought to have been born in Lydbury North also Catherine CARD, born August 1872 in Newington,Southwark We have most of these names from the 1871 Census of Lydbury North, but don't have firm dates. Dear List, My ancestor Margaret MEREDITH and her sister Sophia were baptized in Brilley Parish Church in 1822. Their sister Mary followed in 1825. Their parents were James MEREDITH, a labourer and later a farmer, and Mary (maiden surname unknown). I have found no trace of the marriage of James and Mary Meredith or any baptisms of other children. The marriage of James Meredith (Gent.) to Mary Jones in Clifford in 1817 has been discounted leaving no alternative. 'My' Mary was born in Abbey Dore in about 1778 (according to the 1851 census). I have found a marriage of a James Meredith to a Mary Cox in 1812 in Monnington-on-Wye which is between Brilley and Abbey Dore. This couple baptized a son James in Monnington the same year. Margaret Meredith (bap. 1822) was first married in Eardisley in August 1841 to a Richard POWIS. Could her father have been of the Eardisley Merediths that include a James baptized in 1780? That James had children including a William (married in Eardisley in 1842) a! nd an Ann Meredith. Any possible pieces of information, no matter how insignificant they may seem, would be much appreciated, especially the whereabouts of the family in the census of June 1841 and any suggestions as to the whereabouts of the marriage entry and James and Mary's origins. Best wishes James

I have recently joined this list and see that there has been some correspondence regarding the above family name. My 5 X Great Grandparents were JOSEPH STINTON and ANN MEYRICK both of the parish of Collington and marrried there in 1750. Their daughter ELIZABETH married THOMAS HILL in 1780 also at Collington. I would be pleased to hear from anyone interested in my ancestors but unfortunately at this time this is the only information I have. Margaret Felthouse Perth Western Australia.
Can anyone help me, please. I am interested in Hucks Farm, Yarsop as I believe my ancestor Samuel Hancorn lived there from 1749 - 1776. He may have owned the farm or leased it. Any info would be very much appreciated. If anyone has access to the Hereford R.O. perhaps they could look in the index for any documents, etc. Ros. Do you have a GOMERY or GUM(M)ERY in your family tree? Did you see one the other day when you were searching the parish registers, or was it in the directory? If the answer to either question is yes, or even maybe, then I'd love to hear about it as I'm collecting all and any information about these surnames and their variants - and I need help :-) Looking forward to hearing from you all.
