    1. [HEF] Mostly PEARSON but add DAVI(E)S
    2. Frank and Val Froese
    3. Dear List, Can anyon help me with my three requests concerning the PEARSON family? #1 Can some one look up the 1851 census for Stoke Lacy. I am looking for the DAVI(E)S family. James Davis married to Hannah Pearson. They were there at the time of Hannah's father's death in June 1851. His name James Pearson. It says both of Bromyard in the burial notice but I know James was in Stoke Lacy in the 1851 census. I didn't know he had a daughter Hannah when I ordered the census film from the LDS centre and didn't know of the Davis name in the family tree. I would really appreciate a listing of the family dynamics and wondered if she was born in Yorkshire like her brothers. #2 Does anyone know of a marriage for CLARA AUGUSTA PEARSON, born April 10, 1862 in Mansell Gamage, Herefordshire? She would be the granddaughter of the above James Pearson.I couldn't find her on the rootsweb BMD website. #3 Does anybody know anything about brothers Martin and Percy Pearson who owned "The Cattle Market Hotel" in Hereford in 1832? I belive their father was Richard Martin Pearson. I would be so grateful if somebody could help on any of these issues. Val

    1. [HEF] Is the stone fake? Was the msg. from Virginia Dare?
    2. A very good friend of mine in England came up with this translation. I believe the stone is authentic: Renee, I suspect the "experts" were American speakers not English ones :-) Points:   Menage is not many . It is (still in modern french)  the household. (Menage a trois eg. ) She is talking about the people in the outfit who came off the ship  together with 24 indians. fain means reluctant surely? Try this. Is there a date? Was this the Roanoke colony in Va.? I thought that nothing had been found there? It's a good step from Hereford mind ;-)) Bryan Dad, soon after you set off for England,we moved here. It has been only misery and fighting for two years now. In less than two years after your departure more than half  had died of  disease. You will remember that there  were twenty-four indians together with our group from the ship. Soon , the indians became  frightened that their gods would punish  them ( for befriending the white heathens maybe ?) and deserted us would you believe? But they then  decided to appease their gods by returning and  killing us . They murdered all but eleven of us including my child Ananias. Grief stricken though we were we survivors gave them all a decent burial on a hill top four miles east along the river from here. We inscribed all their names on a stone and I will leave this message with it for you. I have bribed an indian with the promise of a huge reward to show you this message .... 2. James Evans
    3. Dear List, My ancestor Richard Phillips (of Marden) was married to Elizabeth DUGGON in Marden parish church in 1833. On the 1851 census of Marden, she is shown as aged 38 and was said to have been born in the parish of St. Peter in Hereford City. Does anyone have any record of her baptism? She might still have been alive at the time of the 1881 census. Could anyone who has the 1881 census index tell me if Elizabeth Phillips is to be found on it? She would have been aged about 68 and probably living in the Marden area. What birthplace is given for her in 1881? Her husband Richard Phillips was born in Marden in about 1811 so would have been aged about 70 in 1881 if still alive. Thanks in advance! Best wishes James Phillips-Evans
