Hi there I am new to the list, and am looking for any information on ANTHONY HART married in St. Peters Hereford in 1795 to ANN. ANTHONY had a son named JAMES HART who was christened in St. Peters Hereford on 17 July 1797 and married JANE HICKSON in St. Mary's Kidderminster 28 October 1822. Any information anyone can give me about this family would be appreciated. Hello - I am new to this list. I am looking up any John WOODWARD who was a preacher or minister pre-1810. I saw a reference to a John who died 1898, he was a preacher from Pear Tree, so I am following up any reference to Pear Tree in counties, as ministers travelled on 'circuits' and could have been in many places in their lifetime. I looked up the IGI and there is a John Woodward age 47 years, died in 1898 at Aston, at Pear Tree Green. Can anyone give me any information about Woodwards in that area? Much appreciated if you can. Hello Ann, i checked it does say employed as timber squarer but i know whats written is not always accurate so perhaps it could be timber sawyer, keith.
I checked it does say employed as timber squarer but I know what's written is not always accurate so perhaps it could be timber sawyer Hi Ann, A timber squarer is a legitimate occupation. A 10" diameter round log would be hewn flat on all 4 sides to form say an 8" x 8" square timber, for example. So a timber squarer is the guy doing the hewing (by hand before steam engines) Cliff Lien Alberta, Canada cjl@interbaun.com
Hello i hope ive got it right now as this is my 3rd attempt to send this email! I have an ancestor whose job was a Timber Squarer am i right in assuming that he worked in a timber yard?

In the newspaper for South Australia called the ADVERTISER yesterday was an 8,000 list of names from the cemetery CENTENNIAL PARK IN ADELAIDE S.A There are some 8,000 graves and memorial sites that have passed their expiry date and are going to be dug up or such ifin the rellies don't pay. You can get a list of these folk from the web site www.cententialpark.org All this list tells you is that they are buried there and they have been there for either 25 or 50 years depending on how much was paid as well as the expiry date of the grave. But at least you may see a rellie or two here. Jill Morley (nee ARNOLD) in South Australia. Dear List, The IGI states that on November 29th 1812 in the parish church of St. Martin in Hereford City, an Elizabeth DUGGAN was baptised. Oddly, the IGI record does not include the names of any parents. This child is almost certainly an ancestor of mine so I'd be very grateful if anyone could help out with the names of her parents as recorded in this entry of baptism in the registers. She married Richard Phillips in Marden parish church in 1833. Best wishes James
Hello Fred I'm afraid that in the 1841 Census Shobdon Court, Herefordshire, was (like your Bath address) occupied by just two man-servants - William TAYLOR, aged 30, and Richard WILLIAMS, aged 17. I couldn't see anything in the Census which might have given a clue as to who owned the property, but the BATEMAN family were certainly very influential in the area in the 18th and 19th centuries (the local pub is to this day called the Bateman Arms). Kellys 1934 Directory of Herefordshire mentions that when the ancient Shobdon church (built 1141) was pulled down down in 1752 Lord BATEMAN caused the three principal arches to be re-erected in the park, where they still remain. In the "new" church (erected 1753) there is a fine monument to John, last Viscount BATEMAN & Baron of Culmore, who died on 2 March 1802, and another to William (HANBURY), 1st Baron BATEMAN, who died 22 July 1845. The fact that a birth at Shobdon Court to a Lady BATEMAN was reported in the Bath Chronicle would suggest that there was a family link between the two places, but not being a native Herefordian I'm afraid I can't tell you what that might have been. No doubt someone on this list with a better knowledge of local history than I have will be able to point you in the right direction (if they haven't already done so). Dear List, I have a Roger HARLEY, born 1600 - 1620, probably a member of the family who became the Earls of Oxford and lived at Eywood at Titley, hosts and lovers of Lord Byron and many other famous visitors. His mother was a GREENLY from Titley (GRENELYE at the time possibly) but I have no names for either parent (Roger is mentioned in a will by his maternal grandfather who neglects to name his daughter or son in law which was very unhelpful of him). Are there any HARLEY researchers out there who could help? If so, I have details of what Roger inherited which may be of interest. TIA David Matthews
Hi all New on CD from the Archive CD Books Project: 1. Post Office Directory of Herefordshire 1863. Very similar in content to the 1879 directory described below. It is quite fascinating to compare directories to see how places changed over the years with new people appearing, others moving from one village to another and new institutions like churches, hospitals and schools being built. 2. Post Office Directory of Herefordshire 1879. Each town, village and hamlet in the county is described, with details of local history, facilities and institutions to help you understand the lives of your ancestors. Each place has its own lists of private residents and tradespeople. There are also separate county wide directories of private residents and classified trades. Both of these books were kindly loaned to the Project by the Family Record Centre (the PRO) in London. see: http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/acatalog/Archive_CD_Books_Directories_102.html ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The Archive CD Books Project is a not for profit organisation which exists to make reproductions of old books, documents and maps available on CD to genealogists and historians, and to co-operate with libraries, museums and record offices in providing money to renovate old books in their collection, and to donate books to their collections, where they will be preserved for future generations. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Best wishes Rob Dewsall -- ARCHIVE CD BOOKS - A not-for-profit project to reproduce old books on CD for genealogists and family historians, and pay for the restorarion of books in record offices, libraries etc. Mailing list : CDBOOKS-L@rootsweb.com (for discussions) Weekly News : CDBOOKS-NEWS-L@rootsweb.com (weekly announcements & news) E-mail : enquiries@archivecdbooks.org Web : http://www.archivecdbooks.org
