Hi Gladys >>If on the LDS 1881 on-line site you input first name JANET, leave last name blank, birthplace England/Hereford, birth year 1852, range two years, you get 6 matches but only one of them born in Kington - Janet OLIVER.<< etc... If you then go to FreeBMD http://freebmd.rootsweb.com and search for marriages for WOOLF (WOLFE etc) you may well find out when and where they married, and to whom. These census sightings might well be confirmed by that. Hello again Gladys. If on the LDS 1881 on-line site you input first name JANET, leave last name blank, birthplace England/Hereford, birth year 1852, range two years, you get 6 matches but only one of them born in Kington - Janet OLIVER. Do the same with EMMA,1851, and you get 298 matches but only one of them born in Kington - Emma SIMPER, living in West Ham, Essex. Jane is a bit more difficult since out of 230 matches four were born in Kington - Jane HYDE (1848), Jane DAVIES (1850), Jane BRADLEY (1848) and Jane COTTRILL (1850). Take your pick! Elizabeth gives a daunting 976 matches, but interestingly one of them is an Elizabeth WOLFFE, born 1855, working as a domestic nurse in the household of the J.P. for Shropshire. This looks remarkably like your Elizabeth in unmarried state. Could someone please check the 1861 census for John Gough Brick - born March 1836? His marriage certificate of Feb. 1861 gives his address as 3 High Street, Hereford - a grocer. Hi first son was born in Hereford in 1862, so they should be there... I hope, I hope. I'm not sure of the exact date of the 1861 census, but I'm hoping his wife Emma Marie Newson is with him by the time it was taken. Emma is one of my "brick walls" (no pun intended) and her birthplace would be a huge help. Thanks very much, Cliff Lien Alberta, Canada cjl@interbaun.com
Hello list, I am in a dilemma regarding ways that I may find the married names of my gr. grandmother's sisters? James and Jane WOOLF of Kington had five daughters and one son. I've found the family on the LDS site and have found Walters marriage in Lyonshall @ 1882. However, I would like to trace the other four daughters: Jane born 1848;Emma born 1851; Janet born 1852; and Elizabeth WOOLF born 1857 all at Kington. If the only hope is by finding an obituary of James or Jane, how would I find someone to search the Kington newspaper archives? James Jane and son Walter lived at 9 Headbrook, Kington in the 1881 census. I can't find a death listing for either of the parents on the familysearch website. Please, folks, could you give me your ideas on where and how to search for these people? Thank you for your time and expertise. Gladys in Alberta Canada.

As most people will be aware the Genfair site which many people have been using to purchase publications and re-new subscriptions through, has been suspended for the time being, at present we are not aware of for how long. I have received a couple of e-mails asking if Herefordshire FHS can accept payment by credit card, unfortunately the answer is no, but we are able to accept payment in Sterling and US Dollars cheques for normal publications, and for renewals of subscription we send out paying-in slips to our members in Australia and New Zealand, so that they can pay into their own National banks. Please make payable to HEREFORDSHIRE FHS We realise this is not an ideal situation, but it is the best we can do at the moment. Hello listers, Could someone do a lookup in the 1851 Census for me, please? I am researching a family names BOUCHER from Bromyard/Edvin Loach area. The family I need is - Thomas and Jane SA(U)NDERS who were in Norton, Bromyard in 1841 with William BOUCHER and his children. Was Jane his daughter, also? Jane would be age 40, roughly. I especially need her place of birth as she doesn't appear in the records from Bromyard or Edvin Loach. Also, is Norton a village? Is it located near Bromyard and/or Edvin Loach? Thank you all, Kay Andrews Pittsburgh, PA
