Hi list I have just received a marriage cert for a William BRUSH and Rebecca PROBERT in 1892 in the parish of (I think) Withington although the writing is unclear. Has anyone got access to the 1891 Hereford census and could please check to see where Rebecca Probert (father William Probert) was? It would also be very helpful to know where she was born please. Many many thanks Angie _________________________________________________________________ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
I have just subscribed to this list having followed my ggggg grandfather, James LILLY, back from Cardigan to Hereford. I belive that he married Priscilla EARL in Hereford Cathedral Church on 6th Feb 1721. I understand that PRs for the cathedral church do exisat for that period but that they haven't been filmed for the IGI. If anyone does have access to the registers I would be very grateful for a look-up. I am not sure what information would be included but I am hoping to find James LILLYs parents. It would also be helpful to confirm whether Priscilla EARL's parents were, in fact, William & Mary: I found a possible christening on the IGI for 24 Apr 1700 at Bromyard, Hereford. If anyone can help me with the PR or tell me where they can be consulted, I would be very grateful. All the best to the list, John Anstey Lockerbie Scotland
Hi Everyone, I am so excited, to day I received my Grandmothers Birth certificate, and found out that she was born in Widemarsh Holmor ,Hereford ? in July 1867 her Father being Henry Evans, shoemaker and Mother Emma.I found such a family on the 1881 census, living in Birmingham ,Where she met Grandfather Alfred Booth and got married in 1885 I would really appreciate if some kind person would check the 1871 census for this family in Hereford, so that hopefully it would tie in with this Birmingham family, Thanking you in advance, Keeping my fingers crossed Doreen P. ----- Original Message ----- From: Doreen and Bill To: ENG-HEREFORD-L-@rootsweb.com Sent: November 20, 2002 3:13 PM Subject: Elizabeth Marie Evans, Hi everyone, I am so excited, I think I have finally tracked down my elusive Grandmother,I found her on the 1891 census, married to my Grandfather Alfred Jones Booth living in Birmingham, and that she was born in Hereford..I have their wedding certificate, showing her Father Henry Evans was a shoemaker , and on the 1881 census , there was such a family now living in Birmingham ,Henry Evans was born in Raglan , so what I now need , is S.K.S to do a look up on the 1871 Hereford census so that I can confirm that this in deed is my Grandmother, and parents and siblings match.I will be eternally grateful Trying not to hold my breath !!!, its been a long haul. Many thanks Doreen P.
Apologies for repeating a request from a few months ago, but I thought it might be worth a try... I'm STILL very stuck on a Frederick HAWKER, born c. 1833, who married Maria ROBINSON (b. Ross c. 1835) in Ross in 1854; they had two daughters, Sarah Elizabeth (b. 1855) and Eva Pamela. I've so far failed to find ANY further reference to Frederick other than his marriage cert and Sarah's birth cert, so I don't even know where he was born. But the family was living in New Street in 1855, so with a bit of luck they might also be there in 1861. Other relevant people who might turn up in the same place are William ROBINSON (b. c. 1810, also an elusive character) and Sarah ROBINSON / CLARKE (b. c. 1815); these were Maria's parents. This Sarah certainly lived in New Street from 1851 to at least 1901. It would be so wonderful to get a bit further with this family, so I'll keep my fingers tightly crossed that some kind person can help out with a lookup. Best wishes, Rebecca Davies Freiburg, Germany
For all the evidence I can find of his existence before his wedding day at Ewyas Harold church in Feb. 1768 My gggg-grandfather HUGH PHILLIPS might have been beamed down from space for the occasion. He later became a big-wig in Grosmont but if anyone knows his ante-cedents please contact me direct email. Bryan Phillips - Brighton - England -----Original Message-----
Steve, Looking at the Herefordshire 1851 census index, i do in fact find the entries you refer to for Monkley, the 727a refers to the folio number as you presumed, the 1851 census is on film, so not economical to purchase for just a few entries, but if you would like to contact me i can put you in touch with one of our committee who can, for a small donation, do you a print-out from the original film. The 1851 census index was in fact the first census index done by Herefordshire FHS some years ago and does NOT include Parish Born. My ggrandmother I have been told is buried in the Churchyard belonging to Pencoyd School. I also have been told the index book was stolen. Would anyone know of a contact for this particular site I could correspond with? Thanks in advance Donna Western Australia
Dear List, Firstly, could anyone tell me if they have any record of the family of James and Mary MEREDITH on the (June) 1841 census. Their daughters Margaret and Sophia were baptised in Brilley in 1822. Margaret married the first of her three husbands in August of that year at Eardisley parish church with Sophia as a witness so they must have been alive and in the area two months beforehand but I can't find them. James and Mary are a real enigma all round so any documentary evidence of them is vital. I can't even find their marriage which is very odd and neither can I find any other children - there must have been more becuase Mary was born in about 1778 so probably didn't have her first child in 1821 at the age of 43. Secondly, If anyone here has ancestors 'missing' from the records in the late 1790's, 1800's or 1810's then here is a possible explanation. My ancestor Thomas Phillips was baptised in Marden in 1781. He isn't to be found in the Marden records again until 1819 when one of his many children was baptised back in the ancestral parish. Somehow in the early 1800's, he had joined the Royal South Gloucestershire Militia. By 1807 he was stationed in Brighton where he married Lydia Trevett and baptisd three of his children there in 1808, 1809 and Jan. 1811 - the latter being Richard (Trevet) Phillips who was married to Elizabeth Duggan back in Marden in 1833. In March 1811 they moved on to Plymouth in Devon and were there until 1813 when they moved on to Bristol. So, the rest of these Phillips children could be in the records anywhere in the southern counties. The French threat ceased in 1815 with victory at Waterloo so all the soldiers went back home. Thomas returned home with his ne! w wife Lydia, probably soon after, but don't appear in the Marden records until they baptised their first 'Marden child' 4 years later. Thomas died in 1832 aged 52 and Lydia probably died between 1837 and 1841. Best wishes James Phillips-Evans
I am unsubscribing for a while as I found several "new rellies" and would like to get to know them better. I know it's a bit early but Merry Christmas to everyone Get more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com
I have purchased a couple of census cd's from HFHS which details Surname, Fore Name, Age, Parish District and Folio Number. I was wondering how the Folio Numbers work (example = 727a) and whether I can use the number to purchase the actual fiche to discover further information like address and possibly occupation? I assume Fiches described as index's won't give the additional information I an looking for? Thank you for any help given
Dear All, If you are researching your family and are stuck in Whitney before 1660, have a look at my website called the Hancorns of Herefordshire. Click on Hereford Records and you will find some extracts of the Whitney PRs 1591 -1740. The extracts are not complete so if anyone knows of any entries which can be added, please let me know. If you know your family was in Whitney but cannot find any entries in the extracts, I have a list of names from other sources of families who lived in Whitney and were probably baptised, married or buried in Whitney. My website address is : http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~roseana/hancorne.htm Best Wishes, Ros.
Hello Andrew There are no PR Baptism registers for Winforton in the HRO after 1812 (presumably either still with the church or lost), but there's this barely legible entry in the Bishops' Transcripts :- Winforton, Baptisms. 30 June 1816 Thomas, son of Howard (?) and Jane DAVIS of Kingwaters (?), blacksmith. HELP !! Is it possible some kind person can help me with an 1861 census or, maybe 1871 look-up please. He was back in Goldcliff in 1881. George BAKER b. 1841 Goldcliff, Mon It has been said he was in the Hoarwithy, Ross-on-Wye or near, at this time. A result would solve a very big dispute, so would be much appreciated. Thanks.....Hazel
