THOMAS WARING married ANN (possibly Talbotabout 1777). Nine children listed. Hannah,Edmund,John, MARY, Anne, Sarah, Elizabeth, William, Meliora. Hello everyone I am new to the list and thought I would post my interests. I am interested in John Thurston of a place described as "above Tirley" in Gloucestershire England who died in 1782. The place "above Tirley" looks like Jurly but the writing is difficult to read. Perhaps it is just a farm name....anyway - John Thurston owned considerable real estate in Gloucester and Herefordshire when he died. His first wife was Mary (married 1752) who died around 1760 and his second was Sarah (married c 1761) who was still alive in 1786. His children by Mary were Mary (Beavan), Sarah (Simmons) and Margaret (Cooke/Leyson) and by Sarah were Esther, Diana and John. Oral family history says that the children Mary and Sarah were incorrectly "registered" as the children of John & Sarah. I guess this means late baptisms not that I can find any anytime. ;) Any bells ringing out there? :) Lyn Nunn Brisbane Australia lyn@webexpress.net.au lnunn@optusnet.com.au
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! I wanted to share this story with everyone, expecially today. AUSTIN'S QUARTER Yesterday morning, short of cash, I asked the kids (ages 8, 7, and 7) to look around the house for some change so their Mother could eat lunch at work. A little change started trickling in, and Austin came forward with a quarter in his hand. He said, "Mommy, this is all I have" and I said thank you and placed the quarter in my pocket without even thinking or looking at it. When I got to work I stopped at the coffee machine and took my change from my pocket. It was then that I noticed in the curve of my palm Austin's quarter and my heart filled with emotion. My little boy had given me the quarter that he had been saving for a very long time. It was a special quarter, very special to him. You see, it was an Indiana quarter. Austin has no Father to speak of, and the Indiana quarter was a reminder of home since he was born there and we now live in Pennsylvania. For the rest of the day my heart soared. YES, I had taught my son to love another so much to give his very last, most important quarter so they could eat. WOW! You know, sometimes you don't know if the teaching methods you are using to raise your children are working, and very rarely do you see evidence that it is. I did not spend Austin's quarter, instead, I took it back to him. As he sat in his desk chair at home I got down on my knees and told him how proud I was that he had shared that quarter with me but I could not bring myself to spend it. I handed it back to him with as much love as I could give him in the moment. I wanted to share this story with you. All around the world this morning people are preparing their turkeys, they will be welcoming loved ones and friends and remembering those we have lost in the past year. Tables will be set and finally, thanks given for our health, safety, prosperity, and the opportunity to join with our loved ones on this very special of days. Food will be eaten, dishes done, and people will be groaning in their chairs. Finally, guests will trickle out the door with a "lovely dinner dear, thank you" as a last farewell. Me? I'll be doing the same as everyone else with one exception. I will still be thinking of my son and that Indiana quarter. Renee Waring
Hello List, The answers to my request for help regarding the WOOLF family of Kington on Nov 13 was overwhelming. Please let me thank publicly: Terry, Angela, Phil, Polly and especially Gordon Evans. Each provided me with a different avenue to search and Gordon is still helping without thought of payment. I feel perhaps the only way to thank the good people on this list is in the form of a donation to the Hereford History Society...I'm looking into it. Thank you all so very much. Gladys in Alberta

Hi Doreen Sorry, but I don't see what an 1871 look-up in Hereford would tell you about this family that you haven't already got from the 1881 Birmingham, other than that everyone would be 10 years younger. You know from the 1881 that Elizabeth had an older brother George, born Hereford 1863/4, and two younger brothers - Henry, born Hereford 1869/70 and William, born Birmingham 1871/2. This tells you that the family was living in Hereford between 1863 and 1870 but moved to Birmingham some time between March 1870 and March 1872. The 1871 Hereford Census isn't indexed, so it would be quite a slog trawling through it looking for your EVANS family. And this would of course be pointless if they'd already gone to Birmingham by Census day 1871.
