HELP!! Desperately seeking the baptism of GEORGE JAUNCEY(or JAUNCY, JOHNSEY). I'm unsure of the year of his birth (the 1841 census shows him as being 20, the 1851 census as 37 and 1861 as 44). When he died in Brocamin, Leigh in 1868 he was aged 54 (making a likely birth date 1814). According to each census he was born in WACTON, Herefordshire, and his marriage to Ann Hyde in Leigh in 1843 shows his father was WILLIAM Jauncey. I've searched the Wacton parish records but can find no trace of either George or William Jauncey. Does anyone have any suggestions of where I can look further? Any assistance gratefully received! Thanks. Greg Jauncey __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Sign up now. http://mailplus.yahoo.com

Many thanks to those who replied so quickly. I did realize (after sending the question) that it was most probably Dilwyn, but it's nice to know there aren't any other likely places. Stephen, My first online relative :-) Ann WOODYAT and Joseph PORTMAN were my GreatGreatGrandparents. I didn't know about Alfred Harford PORTMAN's family so you've expanded my knowledge already. I would be keen to learn more about Ann's parents and beyond. I have a fair bit descending from Ann and Joseph and could send it to you in a file if you contact me again off list. Hello everyone, I'm trying to gather all the MUNKLEY's together to create a database of whose who and where from. Particularly interested in people from around south Wales and boarders. Keen to find ancestors pre 1830's but would also like to expand on some that I have after 1830 All details welcome, whose related to who, where from, BMD data etc. Any help well be greatly appreciated. Munkley Family
Just done a search on Google, seems to be in Worcestershire. None of the mapping sites bring it up, however there are two Shelsley's north west of Worcester (Shelsley Walsh and Shelsley Beauchamp). It's seems probable its one of those names which has disappeared as areas get renamed as all the finds in Google are referring to events around 1700's to about 1830. Text at http://www.phancocks.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/localhistory/naunton.htm refers to Great Shelsley, however all the online maps I could find seem to be 1880 or later, and Great Shelsley had disappeared by then. Hope the above is of some help. Hello, I am new to this list, according to the 1851census here in Newport Gwent, I have found out that my G X 4, Richard Godwin came from Great Shelsley, is anybody able to tell me where this place is please. T.I.A. Les Lacey, Newport, Gwent.
Several people from the list have been very helpful as regards my Ross-on-Wye HAWKERs, and Gordon Evans was able to provide the 1861 census info I was looking for on the list a few weeks back. It didn't actually turn up Frederick and Maria Hawker in the place where they'd been living a couple of years previously, rather showing their two daughters living with Maria's mother, but I was most grateful to have this information. Before planning to do a trawl through more of the 1861 at some point in the future, it might be wise to start by checking to see that F & M hadn't died since the conception/birth of their younger daughter. Therefore I'd be extremely grateful if someone were able to check the period *1857 to 1st half 1861* for deaths in the Ross Reg. Dist. for Frederick (b. c. 1833) and Maria (b. c. 1835). I've already checked all online resources that I know of. (If they don't turn up, where can I get a Sherlock Holmes hat? I'll be needing one!) Best wishes, Rebecca Davies _______________________________________ Dr Rebecca J. Another single reference to the PREECE family. A Frances PREECE, bapt 15.04.1796, St. Johns, Hereford, HEF (from the VRI I think, my records are not good here) married my Charles Hickes GREENLY at Chatham, KENT, 16.02.1837. He was bapt 18.08.1805 at Ebenezer Chapel, Bristol having been born in Swansea. His parents were from Hereford. He remarried in 1860 and became a father a year later (the son becoming a world famous geologist) so Frances probably died before then, although I have found no record of her death. It would seem that Frances's parents were John PREECE and Frances GREENLY (!). This Frances was sister to Charles, father of the above mentioned Charles Hickes so, by my calculation, the Frances who married Charles Hickes GREENLY was in fact his cousin (one of three such occurrences in my family tree). Confused? I am. David Matthews

Any information wanted on the family headed by Sarah Wilson in 1881. The family moved to Duck Cottages, Bridstow from Gloucestershire in 1879. Shortly afterwards Daniel Wilson died of pneumonia, leaving Sarah his widow with seven children: Frederick, 16, Mary Ann Smith Wilson 14, Albert Henry 12 (My grandfather), Edward G, 9. Arthur, 6, Wilfred, 4 and Ernest, 2. By 1901 Sarah was at Oaklands Cottages, Bridstow. I have some information on Frederick, Albert and Edward which I would be willing to share, but very little on the others, especially Mary A.S. Wilson, apart from a death date. Also I am keen to know where Albert Henry was between 1881 and 1901, when he reappears in Cobham Surrey. Also I have scoured the St Catherine's Index for the death of Sarah, without success. When/where did she die? or is she still alive aged 162? I have a photograph, supposedly of Sarah, to share with any descendants. John Wilson
