Hello Duncan (wherever you are). The IGI has this baptism of course :- Mordiford, Herefordshire. 30 May 1841 Jane, daughter of John and Jane SCAFFOLD. Will try and remember to have a look in the PR's when I'm next in the Hereford RO to see if the LDS transcribed it correctly to their index. Hi - I wonder if anyone would be able to help me on this one. I am trying to track down information on a couple: William Gladwin (or Gladding) and Jane Caffold. They were both illiterate, which meant that the spelling of William's surname was inconsistent: George has the surname Gladding on his birth certificate, although he was known as Gladwin. William was a farm labourer, who seems to have moved around Hereford quite a lot. His 1881 census return suggests he was born around 1828 in Presteign and Jane was born around 1839 in Mortisford. They had at least 5 children: Chas., ca 1869, Mortisford Thos., ca 1872, Westhyde Emily, 27 Jul 1875, Abbey Dore George, 19 Jun 1876, Abbey Dore Louisa, ca 1879, Much Dewchurch Unfortunately I can't track down Jane's birth certificate (William was born before compulsory registration), nor their marriage certificate - assuming they were married. If anyone has any leads, or suggestions as to where I could get some, I'd be most grateful. Regards, Duncan Elliot
Hi all, Just visiting as I follow hot on the heals of a possible family connection. Have just come across a marriage of a Patrick RICHLEY in Hereford district in 1902. Would anyone on the list have access to directory information that may help to place this particular person, or may offer any mention of RICHLEY in the county at this time? TIA, Teresa
Hello all Does anyone know if I check the school's records, how much detail will be given on the teaching staff working there in the mid 1800s? Will it give their addresses, qualifications etc. or simply that they were working there? Thanks Mal
Dear List- Does anyone have any info on a John Llewellyn or an Eliza Fox? They were in the area around 1800-1850, and had two sons, James, born ca 1849 and George, born earlier. Hello, I wondered if anyone had heard of Hyde Mills. In 1851 it was occupied by the Baggott family. John Baggott was a farmer aged 63 in the 1851 census. He had 106 acres of land. He was born in Bosbury according to the Census. I am told that Hyde Mills was occupied by Thomas Barrett a Miller in 1841. I wondered if the house still stands or if not does anyone know of it's past location? Sincerely, Jacqui White
Hello everyone, I'm trying to sort out my Haynes ancestors and wonder if anyone with the 1851 census index might look up a James Haynes born in the 1830s and a William Haynes born in 1833, perhaps the same family, perhaps not, but both in the Bodenham area. Very many thanks, Jennifer from Leeds.
I note the reference to the Partridge family in Ledbury on the List. I happened to be going through the Non-conformist records for Ross-on Wye district FHL Brit Film 0596901 the other day and came across a whole "flock" of them in Weston under Penyard in the early 1700s. I was researching my "brick wall" of the Dowdings in the early 1700s in Weston in particular. I also have on order the Parish records for Weston under Penyard only, so If anyone is interested I could do a search when they come through.
Dear List, It's been quite a while since I submitted my interests so here goes. Any help appreciated. Alan (Foggia, Italy)
Is anyone on the list tracing ancestors in Ledbury or Eastnor or interested in the surname PARTRIDGE from these areas? Best wishes Carol in Berkshire
Hi everyone. I just thought that you should know that there is a dealer on Ebay that is ripping apart 15th and 16th century family Bibles and selling the pages individually. I have begged the seller to pass the family information in these Bibles onto me so I can get the info out to the families but as of yet they have not responded to me, though they really haven't had the time to. I don't know what can be done about this, perhaps we can contact Ebay and stop this. Yes, I think this would be the best way, but don't mention my name, I would still like to have the seller pass the info on and I don't want to make them mad at me. Sincerely, Renee L. Waring

Dear List, It is my sad duty to inform you that Coral Overton, a member of this list which allowed us to establish a connection between our families, passed away on Friday 24th January following an illness. Her funeral took place yesterday. Although I never met my distant cousin I know that she was a kind and diligent researcher who will I'm sure be sadly missed by anyone who came into contact with her. Best wishes James Phillips-Evans
Please give my condolences to the family of Coral Overton. I deeply regret not having gotten to know Coral better but I do hope that there is someone in her immediate family who can pick up the pieces of her work where she left off. I am sure that is what she would have wanted. After all, her work is her epitaph. All of my best. Renee L. Waring
