    3. My g.g.grandfather, Charles PRICE, was born in Dilwyn in l8l9. He had a younger brother, Edwin, born in l827 who married an Elizabeth GREENLY. (Marriage unlocated.) Edwin was a carpenter, like his father Stephen. Edwin and Elizabeth had one known son, Edwin William PRICE, who was born Dec. l855 at Dilwyn. On young Edwin's baptism entry for May l856 at Dilwyn, the family residence is given as "A cottage in the Common Lane, Dilwyn". I do not know when Elizabeth dies - or whether they had further children - but, by l88l Edwin is remarried to a Rhoda (PRITCHARD) of St. Maughans, Mon., and they had two children: Gertrude I.P. PRICE, age 5, b. Weobley, Hef., and George Oswald PRICE aged 3 b. St. Maughans, Monmouthshire. They were living at "Yew Tree Cottage, Fownhope, Hef". If anyone is able to add anything to the above then I would be very pleased to hear from you. I have not had the opportunity to look for Edwin on either the l86l or l87l censuses. I know that David Matthews kindly sent me some information on his Titley GREENLY family. I have mislaid his e-mail address but wondered whether Elizabeth may have been one of this branch? Grateful thanks Diane Johansen

    1. [HEF] Aymestrey Parish Registers?
    2. Mandy W
    3. I recently asked the list for help in tracking down a family of Powells in Aymestrey via the 1851 census and as usually the responses kicked up more questions that answers - typically! So I'm back with another plea for help. Does anyone on the list have access to Aymestrey PRs and would be prepared to do a look up for me? I am trying to trace the family of John and Mary Powell (he born 1809 in Weobley and she in Shobdon). So far I know they had two sons, John born in the early 1840s (possibly in Aymestrey), Thomas who was born around 1846 and definitely in Aymestrey (at least according to the 1871 census) and much later a daughter, Mary. There are large gaps in between births which for this family is a little unusual - they were generally prolific (2 x gt grandfather had 24!). I was wondering whether they suffered severe numbers of infant mortality (like several other branches) hence my request. MTIA Mandy in Windermere

    1. [HEF] FINCHER families in Herefordshire
    2. Rhonda Thompson
    3. Hi all, I have been lurking for quite a while and thought I might post my interest in the FINCHER families of Herefordshire. I am slowly working my way (via LDS films) from the FINCHERs who originated in Avenbury (early 1700's) into the surrounding parishes i.e. Ashperton, Much Cowarne, Whitbourne, Thornbury, Stoke Lacy and Acton Beauchamp (Worcestershire) although the latter appear to predate the Herefordshire families. It appears that they may have come from Acton Beauchamp to Herefordshire. At any rate I am not half way through these parishes as yet and realise there are still a lot more to go. Trying to connect the families is not easy (understatement!!!) and the I.G.I. coverage is poor, even when it claims to cover certain periods it is sometimes only a partial coverage. My questions are: Can anyone tell me if there are indexes available at the Herefordshire Record Office for any of these Parishes? Makes going through these films a lot easier. I have been sent a partial one for Avenbury. Is there an index of Wills pre 1858 available? (What I wouldn't give for a few good Wills!!!) Is anyone else researching these families? I have a list of all FINCHERs in the 1851 census. I have also ordered "Avenbury & the ruined church of St. Mary" which I understand has several references to the FINCHER family. Also sounds like a fascinating book. I have the BVRI (Version 2) and a few more Herefordshire FINCHERs do pop up on this. Any help greatly appreciated, either on where these families came from or went to. Regards, Rhonda Thompson Sydney, Australia Always looking for William FINCHER born ca. 1801 in England, married in Scotland in 1826 and died in Melbourne Australia 1855.
