Is anyone researching family of Samuel Probert ( christened 1752 at Llanwarne)and Elizabeth Griffits (christened 12 February 1755 at Llanwarne)- married 4 May 1778? I think they had children Catherine, John and Ann. I think Samuel Probert 's parents were John and Elizabth. I think Elizabeth Griffits parents were William Griffits and Katharine Pritchard (both also christened at Llanwarne).
Dear List, I'd be very interested to hear from anyone with any info. about the following families HACKLEY - of unknown origin. William Hackley of Wellington was born sometime in the first qtr. of the 1800's. Census birthplaces given as Wellington and Mordiford, neither correct but I presume they are a Hefs. family after the hamlet of Hackley. BALDWIN - of Wellington. Hester Baldwin married Herbert Yeomans in 1816. She was born circa 1794. LEACH - of Moreton-on-Lugg. Jane Leach married Thomas Yeomans there in 1783. MELLIN - of Bodenham and Burghill. John Mellin (md. Elizabeth unk. circa 1700s in unk. parish) of Burghill was probably the son of Peter Mellin and Joan Roberts of Burghill. They were md. in Bodenham in 1673. Best wishes James Phillips-Evans
2 of my ancestors worked as train drivers at Hereford based at the Barton Engine shed around about 1880. i have them on the 1881 census for Hereford but i would like to find out what sort of trains they drove etc. ive tried the local; library & the records office in London but no luck, does anyone know if their is an internet site available? Keith.
Anybody know anything of a Lady Stanhope, who funeral took place some time before 1730 possibly in or near Titley. The name has come up in an old will from the GREENLY family and I am interested in the nature of the connection. TIA David Matthews
Have just found a previously unknown branch of the GREENLY family in Knighton, Radnor. Know its the wrong county (indeed country) but it was in the Diocese of Hereford so hope I'm addressing this to the right list. The IGI has almost nothing from Radnor. I need to locate Parish records for Knighton from 1660 through to about 1720. Does anyone know which records office holds the records? Any other suggestions most welcome. David Matthews
Hi, I have an ancestor who came to Western Australia as a convict in 1854 on board the "Ramillies" His name was George HANKS (alias Charles ROCK). I have been searching without luck for any record of his birth/baptism or marriage of his parents under the name of HANKS. I now think perhaps his real name was ROCK. He was supposedly born about 1828 in Hereford to parents John (HANKS but perhaps ROCK) and Sarah WALKER. Does anyone have access to any records that could be of help please? Any suggestions also greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Cathy, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia.

Apogies for spelling error in my previous email. I hope it is obvious I meant Whitbourne not Whitebourne (if there is one!!) Regards, Rhonda Thompson, Sydney, Australia
Hi all, Apologies for cross posting, but my query concerns both Herefordshire and Worcestershire. I am working my way through Parishes in Herefordshire starting from Avenbury looking for all FINCHER entries. (So far I have been very successful - this is unusual). I have all my county maps, which are excellent, but unfortunately don't tell me adjoining parishes in the next county, just that it is Worcestershire. My query is that if I were to step out of Whitbourne in Herefordshire into Worcestershire which county or counties would I be in? Which would be the closest village? Any help appreciated. Regards, Rhonda Thompson, Sydney, Australia
Diane, I recently replied to your post regarding Elizabeth Greenly. By sheer coincidence, I have located the will of her father John Greenly of Eardisland and should have a copy by the end of the week. If you care to contact me next week, I should be in a position to confirm whether your Price was indeed his son in law. David Matthews
Thanks David, I also found on the GENUKI site for Herefordshire a lady who has a private index of Wills from 1700 - 1858 (from memory). Don't know what her costs are but I think I will contact her re her index. I will also make inquiries re the Herefore Records Office but pre 1700 is maybe a little early at the moment, not that that would stop me ordering any FINCHER Wills they hold, but mid 1750's to 1820 is probably more in my research interests right now. But for the moment I will send off an email to the Herefordshire Record Office and see if any of my FINCHERs had moved across pre 1700. I must admit I find Wills pre 1858 a rather daunting prospect. Never know quite where I should be looking. Thanks very much for your help. Hi Diane, Most likely Elizabeth GREENLY, born 1828 Leominster. Her Grandfather came from Dilwyn. Her parents farmed at Eardisland. Her cousins emigrated to the USA and their ancestors are around today, mainly in Pennsylvania. If it is her, I have her line back 8 generations and forward to present day. Note that her father and all her several siblings were born Eardisland and I suspect that is where you will find the marriage. Contact me off list if I can help further. David Matthews, Hull
Ive been find information about a Railway Mission that may have been in Herefordshire or over the border in the next county, no luck im sorry to say, if anyone comes across any details of such a mission id appreciate it if you could let me know. Keith.

I can't find your particular query on the following programme but I find the Parloc freeware programme for finding the distances between parishes is very helpful. www.parloc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk Sue Perkins Picton
