    1. Re: [HEF] JONES of Ullingswick and Bishops Frome
    2. In a message dated 5/3/06 4:40:11 PM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Hello List I am working on my JONES family, William and Sarah had 8 children baptised at Ullingswick between 1820 and 1836, and in the 1841 census William and some of the children were living at Bishops Frome. I am having trouble finding out more about William and Sarah, records for this area seem to be rather thin on the ground, and living in west Wales means a long journey to record offices. I have managed to track some of the Ullingswick children through later censuses, but some have just disappeared. Is anyone else researching this family, and could anyone tell me if records are available on line or to purchase as transcripts, microfiche etc? Many thanks. Joan Have you considered looking in the USA? My ancesters left home for the US when they were just 14 years old, and a lot of people from Herefordshire to the Clearfield or Centre County area of Pennsylvania. Renee Waring

    1. Re: PATESHALL of Pudlestone
    2. I have been attempting a one-name study of this family. Sources consulted have included the Heraldic Visitations for the County, C.J.Robinson's book "A History of the Manors and mansions of Herefordshire, the Pudlestone parish register held at the Hereford record office, other registers from nearby parishes, Pateshall and related family Wills held at the PRO and in Hereford, (some of which I have summarised for GENUKI), the family record made by Jane Pateshall and transcribed by Milborough Ingram (in the H.R.O, reference A95), and an IPM for William Pateshall dated 34 Eliz. I have lodged a copy of my conclusions from the work done to date, including extracts from the sources, at the H.R.O. Numerous additions and amendments to Robinson's pedigree of the family are proposed. Herefordshire families related ancestrally to the Pateshalls include the Whittingtons of Pauntley and Notgrove in Gloucestershire, who spread to Herefordshire in the 16th century, the Danseys of Webton and Brinsop, the Tompkins of Monnington and Weobley, the Gomondes of Byford, the Colles of Hatfield, the Eynesfords and Milbornes of Tillington, the Woods of Collington and the Baskervilles of Eardisley. Their Herefordshire descendants included members of the families of Whittington, Duppa, Dale, Powell, Goodere, Nash and Stallard - not to mention the junior branch of Pateshall of Allensmore. It is possible, but not yet demonstrated, that the family of Pattishall (settled in Maine in the 17th century) is connected. If not, it would seem that the Pateshalls may now be extinct in the male line. I would be delighted to correspond with anybody who may have undertaken similar family research, and to hear from anyone who may be able to confirm my idea that the family may have originated from the old house still known as Patshall, just north-east of Leominster. Also the Hughes in Kings Pyon - just three senior citizens. I had been looking for children of James and Catherine. Many of the Colcombs come from Dilwyn and Weobley, also popular with the Hughes. If you would like the rest of the Hughes from the county, you are very welcome. The Hererfordshire Burial Index is complete from 1813 to 1839. 3. Diane, I tried a two prong attack! 1. I tried for the Postcode for Litfield Bank Cottage on www.royalmail.com Up came : Litfield Bank, Lyonshall, Kington Litfield House Farm, Lyonshall. Kington. 2. www.herefordshire.gov.uk and click on 'Historic Herefordshire' gets you to the Herefordshire Field Name Survey results. There was no Litfield as a field name, but there was Litfield as the location for seven entries, none with a field name, but one described as 'house garden etc.' The Ordnance Survey reference is SO3355. This is for the 1km square with Lyonshall village in the middle. The field numbers are 149-155 excluding 151. Regards, Alec Whitfield from Dilwyn, North Herefordshire UK [email protected]

    3. Hello! I was wondering whether anyone living in the area may know whether Litfield Bank Cottage "just outside Lyonshall" is still standing? My POWELL family lived there from ca. 1900 until it was left to a grand-daughter, Blanche Ethel MATTHEWS in the l940s. We believe she, in turn, died shortly after so it probably left the family at that time. Through sheer fortune I have now been sent a photograph of two family members outside the cottage taken in the l930s and I was just wondering whether the house was still "there" and similarly-named. Many thanks Diane Johansen Researching PRICE/PREECE/POWELL, Lyonshall, Weobley, Dilwyn Member Herefordshire FHS

    3. Hi Norma and Lister Earlier today a message to the List was posted form your address, but it was spam propogated by a Virus either on your computer or on that of someone who has your email address in their address book. So PLEASE do not click on the URL given in that message, which I quote below WITHOUT the URL as you will find yourself on a PORN site....:-( I have asked Rootsweb to remove the messages containing the URL from the Archives, and at the moment put the address <[email protected]> on Reject to stop any more getting through. Take care Polly ----- Original Message ----- From: "norma kaye" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, April 23, 2006 4:44 AM Subject: [HEF] Help Hi! How are you? 1. Ballard Family
    2. Hi there I am posting my interests in Herefordshire. My partcular interest is in BALLARD family which seems to have lived in border area of Glos and Herfordshire around Dymock, Much Marcle, Ledbury, Colwall. In particular I am seeking ancestors of Thomas BALLARD (b.1801, Dymock) son of John (b.1766? Dymock) and Ann BALLARD (m.1786 Dymock). They may be connected with the Much Marcle Ballards including John (b.1708, Much Marcle, d.1790, aged 82, Dymock.) Any information on Thomas' forbears gratefully received. I believe there was a connection to the SKIPP family of Ledbury and Colwall. Thanks Bob Parsons
