    3. Hi Barbara thanks for the Marriages by Licence, all BATES'S mentioned are mine but I did have all that info already in my tree. However should any other researcher be interested in the BATES surname in the Northern part of Hampshire they may be able to help me. Because I'm still looking for the marriage of THOMAS BATES to MARIA which could have taken place Circa the 1680's. Reason for the CIRCA is that they had their first child baptised in St Mary's Church Kingsclere 20 February 1683. But I have never in the last 15 odd years been able to find their marriage! From Jim Bates that Fawkesian reprobate, who is claiming to be descended from Thomas Bates who was hanged, drawn and quartered in the St Pauls Churchyard 1606 for his involvement in the Gunpowder Plot.
