This is my first letter, and I'm nervous! But here goes... Can anyone shed light on mid-19th century emigration from Hampshire (Kingsclere and general area) to Canada? My gr-gr grandfather was a farm labourer in Hampshire, who seemed to move about the area a bit. I am assuming he came to Canada to find employment, but how did he pay for passage? I know that at least 3 of his (known) 5 children also came, and most likely his wife, but I can find no record of her in Canada. (He remarried here in 1848 - from whence came ME!) May thanks. Patricia (Vince) Earl
Hello Patricia & Don, Welcome to Kingsclere, please do not feel nervous, we are a nice bunch of people on this list. What is the name of your gg grandfather, you will possibly find that someone else is also searching your gg grandfathers surname.
