    3. Good morning everybody, As some of you know my connection with Kingsclere area is firstly the STOCKER family and secondly an elusive Ann BRIDGEMAN whose baptism I have yet to discover, probably about 1740, who later married at East Woodhay. However, my enquiry concerns a brass plate that is affixed to the floor of the Royal Oak pub at Ecchinswell; that village is where the STOCKER family lived late 1700s and early 1800s. The wording on the plate is as follows:- Stan " Stocker" Stacey stood here. I am sure that someone on the list will know the significance of the wording and also all about the person concerned. I would be grateful to know all about it please. Cheers for now, Rod Whale in a damp and overcast Andover.

    3. Rod I don't know about the pub but thought you might be interested to know that from where I'm sitting I can see Stocker Close here in Basingstoke. I'm not too sure, but seem to remember that it's named after an incumbent of St Michael's Church the ancient parish church of Basingstoke. That really needs verifying though. ---- Original Message ----- From: "clargo" <clargo@tinyworld.co.uk> To: <ENG-HAMPSHIRE-KINGSCLERE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 25, 2003 10:27 AM Subject: Enquiry re a brass plate in an Ecchinswell pub > Good morning everybody, > > As some of you know my connection with Kingsclere area is firstly the STOCKER family and secondly an elusive Ann BRIDGEMAN whose baptism I have yet to discover, probably about 1740, who later married at East Woodhay. > > However, my enquiry concerns a brass plate that is affixed to the floor of the Royal Oak pub at Ecchinswell; that village is where the STOCKER family lived late 1700s and early 1800s. > > The wording on the plate is as follows:- > Stan " Stocker" Stacey stood here. > > I am sure that someone on the list will know the significance of the wording and also all about the person concerned.
