Some of you may remember my earlier request to the list about the problematical Walter Tidbury. It now appears that the Walter Tidbury who married Eliza DRUCE on 17th September 1889 at Lane End, Bucks, was indeed the one who was baptised in Kingsclere in 1862. The father's name on the marriage certificate was given as Frederick Tidbury but this appears to have been a mistake as all the details from the various censuses confirm that Walter was the son of Jeremiah and Martha. According to his birth certificate Walter was born on 24th April 1862 at North Street, Kingsclere. His father was Jeremiah Tidbury, railway labourer, and his mother was Martha TROUGHTON. Martha appears to have been christened on 2nd February 1842 in Kingsclere, the daughter of John Troughton and Minnie ANDREWS who were possibly married on 10th October 1839 in Kingsclere. Martha was possibly one of four sisters, the others being Mary, baptised 9th February 1845, Harriet, baptised 12th October 1850, and Jane, baptised 13th February 1848. Jeremiah Tidbury died some time before the 1881 census and Martha then married Henry RANDALL, a labourer, born about 1836 in Hursley, Hampshire.Walter Tidbury was living with his mother Martha and stepfather Henry Randall in the 1881 census. In 1891 Walter (born Hants) and Eliza were living in Upper North Dean, High Wycombe, with their 10-month-old son, Alfred Tidbury. In 1901 Alfred is living with Martha and Henry Randall and is described as their grandson. I would be most grateful if Barbara or John could have a look at the Kingsclere registers and give me the full details of the TROUGHTON marriage and baptisms as shown above. If anyone has any connections with any of these names do let me know and I will put you in touch with my Tidbury contact. Best wishes Debbie
