Please contact me at frskfh@provide.net. > Francis Hello I have Mark bapt. at St. Paul, Woodlands on 18 Sep 1853 to Thomas Foster and Elizabeth Fencot. Thomas married Elizabeth 26 Nov 1835 at Sherborne St. John. Mark was the youngest of ten children. Elizabeth was born in Basingstoke according to 1851 census, I hvae nothing further on her. Thomas was a brickmaker at the Brickworks in Holdup Hill, in 1851 he was employing 4 labourers. Mark's grandparents were James Foster and Sarah Williams who married at St. Mary, Kingsclere on 30 Jun 1796, Sarah being his second wife, the first being Elizabeth Fuce who he married at St. Mary on 10 Feb 1777. James Foster's parents were Thomas Smith (alias Foster) and Joan ? I was told by Margaret Ingram (Foster) that Mark and siblings Samuel (eldest son of James & Elizabeth) and Giles emigrated to the US after their mother died on 18 May 1855. Margaret had no information about where they went in the USA, but she did know Thomas had written to his friend Charles Povey in Michigan telling him of his wife's death so it is possible that is where they went. Charles Povey married Rebeccca Foster in Michigan. Rebecca was a dau of Jesse Foster and Charlotte Arlott of Waites Farm, Kingsclere. This particular line of Fosters in one I cannot find a link to at present although there is a link through Elizabeth Fuce who was a dau of Richard Fuce and Mary Smith, Mary Smith being a dau of Thomas Smith (alias Foster) and Mary Dearlove. I am a descendant of Thomas Smith and Mary Dearlove. As James father was also a 'Smith alias Foster' I think a connection between the two lines is possible if not probable. -- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software
