Hello John, Thank you so much for responding to my queeries. I was relieved to find I had not misled Alan Brownjohn, who e-mailed me about the James B born at Kingsclere 1773! Regarding "my" Martha B,she married a William LOVEGROVE at Newbury in 1798 she is Martha BROWN in the register! It was the research into the LOVEGROVEs that provided the clue as to Martha's proper name. She is listed on the 1851 census for Greenham Common in the household of Church BROWNJOHN(Head) as Housekeeper to brother, with my gt grandfather(her grandson-he was the illigitimate son of her daughter Anne)Henry as nephew(to the head). This makes me think that she is not the Martha baptised 1768 d Thomas & Mary. Michael B. & Sarah ? baptised 4 children at Greenham(at least) Mary-26 Nov 1758 Thomas-13 Feb 1763 Church-13 Oct 1765 Catherine-29 Sep 1769 so there is roome for Martha somewhere! I think I need to return to the BRO and re-check the Greenham records plus the Thatcham ones as Greenham was a chapelry of Thatcham. "Church" is an odd name to give a child ,but it does seem to be a family one. I see the 1851 also lists the following BROWNJOHNs at Stroud Green Greenham, probably related as you say, Thomas-44 Mary-35 Church-14 Joseph-12 Julia-7 Edwin-5 Again very many thanks Elizabeth Adams New Milton Hants __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
