Roger, I have William Bolton who married Sarah Smith b 14 Aug 1824 Kingsclere in Dec Quarter 1851. The Smith side I can provide details, it is my family tree. I would much value any details on the Bolton side you might be able to provide. Did they have a family? I have Sarah Gurdler, widow married to William Bolton at St. Paul, Woodlands on 21 Dec 1851. Sarah's father was Jacob Smih and her first marriage to Andrew Girdler. Witness to this marriage (entry no. 69) were Joseph Bolton and Louisa Anglas. William was said to be of Thatcham and his father Benjamin Bolton, labourer. Th 1851 census for Thatcham has a William Bolton age 45, and a Joseph Bolton age 40 both ag labs and born Thatcham, recorded as lodgers at Little Park Farm, Thatcham. So it looks like this is the right William although to confuse things (as usual) there is a William age 41 born Thatcham recorded in Kingsclere in 1851. However it could be this William has a wife Elizabeth age 32 born Wasing, 'tho it would need the 'as enumerated' to confirm this. No record of any Benjamin in Thatcham, Newbury or Bradfield RDs nor in any of the N. Hants parishes around Kingsclere. He isn't recorded as deceased in the marriage entry so his whereabouts is a mystery. The only other Bolton in Thatcham is a Joseph age 75 born Thatcham who is recorded as step-father in h/h of Thomas Collins 37 b. Greenham and wife Amy 35 born Thatcham. -- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software
