Married to Sarah ?, born about 1775, died on 14 February 1819, Market Place, Kingsclere, buried on 19 February 1819, St. Mary, Kingsclere (age at death: possibly 44 years old), with John, born about April 1800, Kingsclere, baptized on 27 April 1800, St. Mary, Kingsclere. Edward, born about November 1815, Kingsclere Town, baptized on 12 November 1815, St. Mary, Kingsclere. *************************************** I have not found any marriage in Kingsclere so must have married elsewhere, possibly in Chieveley or where ever it was he learned his trade. He is recorded as a Butcher at birth of John in 1800 when he would have been about 25 yrs of age. Piggots Directory lists him as a butcher in Duke Street in 1830 but he is not mentioned in the 1842 edition. So far I haven't found any marriages for the children who lived beyond infancy. FreeBMD has a number of Stroud marriages but none of these seem to have occurred in Kingsclere or Woodlands. In the 1851 census index there is a John Stroud age 30 born Kingsclere with a wife Charlotte born Ecchinswell and 2 children. However the 1891 census gives his birth place as Farnham, Wilts so there is probably no connection to John & Sarah. Charlotte is recorded as born in Sidmonton. The marriage probably took place in Ecchinswell and FreeBMD has an entry for John Stroud in Dec Qtr 1846 and a Charlotte Andrews for same page. There is a Charlotte Andrews bapt at St. Mary on 18 June 1826 to William & Lucy Prout of Sidmonton so this is likely to be her. -- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software
