Hello All From Ancestors Magazine "Due to go live 1 April www.1837online.com. This is the fate from which the GRO have given permission for those who have purchased the GRo Indexes on microfiche to make digital images available to the public. The site offers a digital image of every page of the indexes from 1837 to 18 months ago, making it the first to offer the more recent GRO indexes online. 1837 is a pay per view asystem and you will need to buy credits in advance with each credit you get to view ONE page of the index. The basic charge is £5 for 50 credits valid for 45 days." I have tried this site and it is easy to use. You will have to download a viewer plug-in available off the site. The only disadvantage is that you can only search by using the first three letters of the surname. OK for unusual names but give a lot of pages for more common names such as SMI. From 1984 onwards you can search by Surname and First Name which gives narrower results. You can print out the pages or save them to disk. I found references for ten people with still some money left from my £5 which nI can use later. Cheaper than the cost of petrol to Winchester! Regards Peter Goff
