I was going through the 1861 Berkshire census at Reading Library yesterday looking for my Tidburys, Smarts and Johnsons. I came across a couple of Bridgemans in Thatcham. As there seem to be quite a few people researching this name I made a note of the entries: 1861 census Cold Ash, Thatcham Schedule no. 31 John Bridgeman H M 49 Shepherd Born Berks Aldermaston Lydia Bridgeman Wife M 51 born Berks Crookham 1861 census Cold Ash, Thatcham Schedule no. 39 Charles Bridgeman Lodger U Ag. Lab. born Berks Thatcham He was lodging with the Allen family (there were rather a lot of names in this household and I didn't make a note of any of the others). Most unhelpfully I seem to have omitted to note down Charles's age. If this is of interest to anyone I can probably find that out some other time.
