I normally order all my certificates from the relevant local Register Office. Rather than receiving a poor-quality photocopy of the handwritten entry in the national indexes you get an exact copy of the entry in the original register. It's also much cheaper to purchase certificates this way (currently £7.00) and the service is much quicker. The address to write to for Kingsclere is: The Superintendent Registrar Hampshire North Registration District The Register Office "Goldings" London Road Basingstoke Hampshire RG21 4AN Tel: 01256 3221188 You need to enclose an SAE. The Register Office are very helpful and normally send out certificates by return of post whereas it takes about two or three weeks to receive a certificate from Stockport. The GRO page and folio numbers are of course meaningless to the local register offices but they usually manage to find the entry in the register if you know the year and the quarter in which the event took place. If they can't find the entry for you they will return your cheque. The Kingsclere Registration District covers the following parishes (according to FreeBMD): Ashmansworth, Baughurst, Burghclere, Crux Easton, East Woodhay, Ecchinswell, Ewhurst, Hannington, Highclere, Kingsclere, Litchfield, Newtown (from 1895), Sydmonton, Tadley, Wolverton and Woodcott. Even if you don't know which parish the event took place in they should still be able to find the entry in the register for you.
