I just had a look at the IGI for Ham (batch no C153081) and there is only one Hockley entry which seems a little odd. Looking at the map Ham is just to the north of the Ridgeway (Wayfarers Walk on modern maps) which also runs just to the south of Kingsclere so not impossible for his family to have walked there. The only reason I can think for him being baptised at Ham is that he was the first child of the marriage and his Mother came from Ham so he was taken 'home' (or even born at her parents home) for his baptism, subsequent children being baptised in Kingsclere (or where they were actually living). There are plenty of baptisms for Ham but can't find any marriages on the IGI so cannot look for a marriage of a Hockley in Ham. I tried batch numbers like P153081, M153081. I also tried Hugh Wallis IGI Batch Number site but Ham isn't listed and I cannot see that batch number listed with other parishes. Soc. Gen. has Baptism & Marriage registers for Ham so they do exist. It is going to need someone to visit Wilts RO to check the marriage registers.
