Dear Kingsclere members. I have subscribed to this group in the hope that someone here may have an interest in my Stevens ancestors in Kingsclere/Ecchinswell. A paternal gt.gt grandfather was David Palmer STEVENS who was baptised in Kingsclere on 20 March 1818. His mother is named as Mary Stevens but no father is named. David left your community in the late 1830's, married and moved to London where he raised a family and died. I am in contact with a third cousin who shares descent from David and she has passed on to me additional information which takes this line back 100 years in one fell swoop (lucky me!) but I have been unable to confirm on the IGI much of the information supplied. I do not doubt that it is accurate - merely unconfirmed. The information I have been given is that David P Stevens was born out of wedlock and that his mother Mary subsequently married (in 1820) a pillar of the community, George Taylor. George apparently became parish clerk at St.James the Less, Litchfield. Mary was apparently born c1798, the daughter of Robert Stevens and Ann (nee Grigg). This Robert was born c1767, a son of Robert (b.1720) Stevens and Hannah (nee Palmer). If anyone on this list has any connection with any of these individuals or any information about any of them I would be absolutely delighted to hear from them. With Thanks John Stevens - north London.
