"my freehold farm called Hill House consisting of a dwelling > house and buildings and several closes pieces or parcels of land > containing > sixty acres or thereabouts situate in the parish of > Kingsclere in the > County of Southampton..........." My euphoria was to be short lived!!!!! Just checked the 1859 directory on the Kingsclere website and this shows both a Tower Hill House in the village and also a Hill House Farm (J.Povey occupier in 1859). So back to the drawing board. Will have to look at the maps at HRO next time there ................never mind. As we walked around the village yesterday we spotted a "No Smoking" sign on an empty property undergoing some work, which gave rise to conversation at the time. If remembering correctly I think this was once "The Tannery"? Yesterday has kickstarted me to go back and look at some ancestors whose records I've neglected for far too long. Amongst more of the properties mentioned in the Wills of my ARUNDELLs there is this:- ".......all that messuage or tenement now used as two tenements with the shop garden orchard plot of ground and hereditaments thereto belonging called Tan House situate and being in the parish of Kingsclere aforesaid late Walridges???? And also all other my messuages lands......." Could it be one and the same? Ann

Kearl stated that he went to defendant’s shop on the 23rd July" which confirms there was also a Tan House in Kingsclere -- John Lewis Debian (Sid) with the GeneWeb genealogy package
