My Grandmother was buried there on 5 April 1922 having died not far away at Portridge Pit Cottages. My Mother remembered the coffin being carried on a horse drawn hearse up the hill past Wergs Farm and then down the road to cross over the railway line and into the churchyard. She didn't have a headstone, only a simple wooden cross much like the one in one of those photos, which said "In Loving Memory of our Dear Mother Em 1875-1922 from her three daughters" The photo I have (one of those 3"x2" b&w contact prints) of that cross is the only photo relating to Grandmother that has survived the years since then. I haven't been able to establish just where it was in the churchyard. > The little churchyard with hardly any graves in the usual > expectation of a graveyard, but a great many old - some very old - > gravestones leaning against the perimeter wall. I haven't been there recently but a comment on one of the pics on my website* told me it was very neglected and overgrown. The church is actually in private grounds and access is really only allowed for services but I generally park in the road and walk up to the church. I haven't as yet found it open and I don't know how often it is used for services. > All Saints Old Burghclere, Hampshire.
