I am researching the TANNER family in Hampshire. Just spent a wonderful 2 days in their family history facility, met some wonderful people and still trying to fill in all the information I was able to gather while visiting home from the States, where I have lived for the past 40 years. My TANNERS originated in Colmer, Upway, Froxfield, but an illegitimate child of Lucy Tanner and William Thorpe led me to Hampshire, where the Thorpe family was living. My research stops with LUCY as I can't seem to find any more information on her as to her baptism (1770's) or her death. I know she eventually married John Bone but even that has proved elusive. As to her child with William Thorpe, he kept the name of Tanner and stayed in the area along with a bunch of his children. Before I bore you to death completely, I will wait to hear back from you if this rings any bells with your Tanner research.
