    1. Re: [King] Query
    2. Have you looked through the various Census entries in which James Hart appears? The one for 1861 is particularly interesting since it shows that James' father Thomas had died sometime between around 1853 (when James' younger sister Fanny was born) and that his mother had re-married to a James Goddard. A Thomas Smith is also listed as James Goddard's 'father-in-law' and therefore probably the father of James Hart's mother Naomi. I also see that in 1841 Thomas Smith had a Charles Hart living in his household, possibly a relation of his (future?) son-in-law Thomas. I could not find a married Thomas and Naomi Hart in that Census but a single Naomi Smith of the correct age was living/working in Berkshire. Putting 'Burghclere Goddard' into Google I found that somebody had already done some research in to this family. They give Naomi as being the daughter of Thomas Smith, marrying not only Thomas Hart and James Goddard but a Thomas Pope as well - no date given. They also state that James Goddard and Naomi Hart/Smith were married Burghclere in Nov 1858 but a quick search of the marriage index via 'ancestry' did not show this, so you would need to check the parish register - or maybe somebody else on the List has their own copy and can check it for you. The BMD Indexes via FreeBMD are strangely quiet with regard to this family! Hope that is some help, Dorothy
