Elizabeth Talmage bapt. at Highclere on 17 Aug 1806, parents John WESTON and Mary Talmage. I noticed that a Benjamin TALMAGE was living next door to George Dennis at Burghclere in 1861 Census. Benjamin born Burghclere ca1805 with a wife Maria born Hannington ca1806. Benjamin (TAMMAGE) married Maria Allen at St. Mary Kingsclere on 29 Mar 1826 when Benjamin was 'of Burghclere' and Maria 'of Sidmonton' There was a Maria Allen bapt in Dec 1805 in Hannington to William Allen & Rachel Baggs. William Allen was born in Burghclere ca 1782 so I have gone for her as the wife of Benjamin. Was Benjamin related to Mary Talmage is the next question. -- John Lewis Debian (Sid) with the GeneWeb genealogy package

She was buried 04 Dec 1886 in Newbury, twenty years after her father was buried in Kingsclere. In 1806 he was in Winchester prison and his wife and daughter were removed to Sydmonton. HRO has the records. 19M76/PO5/234 Rachael (wife of William Allen a prisoner at Winchester Gaol, charged with felony) and daughter Maria (5 months) removed from Kingsclere to Sydmonton 1806 The wife of Benjamin is far more likely to be her aunt Maria Allen born ca 1797 at Burghclere to William and Elizabeth Allen nee White. I feel it is best not to make any connections until the evidence is available, tempting thou' it may be. My own experience is that to do otherwise is to risk muddling good and bad data and losing confidence in the lot unless you document all sources and apply surety ratings to the data as a pro-researcher would. I would not wish to offend anybody by wrongly describing their family. Regards, Nigel Gerdes
