Good morning I would like to thank John Lewis for his kind answer re the Bates/Smiths. I'm really grasping at straws here, but I think I'm on the right track, I have a marriage at Hamstead Marshall Berkshire in 1796 of a Rose Green to George Matthews a Sophia Bates was a witness. There is no other Sophia Bates that we can find that might fit. Also the name Sophia has been used constantly in our Family since this time.It would help if Mary Green had a sister or relative called Rose we have no proof of who Rose Green was.So if we could find baptisims for Mary and Rose it would be great also for the James Bates. We have also a John Bates marrying a Betty Matthews at Hamstead Marshall in 1793 , on the IGI if one puts in the parents James Bates and Mary Green one gets quite a list of offspring and there is a John b 1767 which would fit .
