I wasn't expecting to find a Swallowfield baptism as I think the family were non-conformists. I found no baptisms at St. Paul, Woodlands for any of the 14 children born at Old Farm, Kingsclere The first Census entry for David was in 1851 when his father George was farming 153 acres at Spencers Wood, Swallowfield, Wilts. David was the recorded as age 3 mths born Swallowfield In all subsequent census, with exception of the 1871 (Shinfield) and 1901 (Reading), his birth place is Swallowfield. George moved to Hurst sometime between 1851 and 1853 as the younger children commencing with Mary Elizabeth ca1853 are recorded as born there. There are no on-line records for Hurst for this period so cannot check for baptisms there but another indicator of a non-conformist background is that George was baptised at London Street Independent, Basingstoke in 1825 although his birthplace was recorded as Sherborne in various Census. -- John Lewis Debian (Sid) with the GeneWeb genealogy package
