    3. Good morning & Happy new year to all I have a bit of a mystery a Fanny Hart sister of James Hart both born Burghclere appears to have married at Kingsclere Dec quar 1871 .Fanny's Mother Naomi Smith married first Thomas Hart then someone Pope and there is a suggestion of another marriage for Naomi as well. Fanny appears to have taken the Pope surname and married under same. This is getting very confusing. Could some kind person check the marriages for me . Thankyou Beverley Smith

There is also a Naomi Pope married Dec Qtr 1858 Kingsclere RD 2c 433 but so many possible spouses cannot know who the marriage was to and I cannot find an obvious Naomi in the 1861 Census. However on looking for James Hart I found a Fanny Hart born ca1853 living near the School House , Burghclere in 1871 in household of James Goddard 62 born Bucklebury (Godard in the DEC Qtr Marriage entry) and wife Naomi 63 born Burghclere. The name is clearly Fanny in the image but indexed as James, step daughter ???? James and Fanny are in household of James Goddard in Burghclere in 1861. There is a Thomas Smith, father in law, 84 almsman ag lab, born Burghclere in household as well. Jame has a wife but no name noted just age of 51. 1851 Census confirms that Thomas Hart age 46, born Burghclere is father of James then age 2 and Naomi age 40 is recorded as wife. FreeBMD has no marriage of a Thomas Hart in Kingsclere RD 1841-1851 There is a death of Thomas Pope Mar Qtr 1858 so was Naomi just living with Thomas Hart and left him to marry James Goddard after her first husband died. There is no death entry for a Thomas Hart 1851-1861 > Naomi as well. Fanny appears to have taken the Pope surname and > married under same. This is getting very confusing. Thankyou Beverley Smith If Naomi & Thomas Hart were not married then Pope would be the 'right' surname for Fanny to marry under. -- John Lewis Debian (Sid) with the GeneWeb genealogy package
