Hello Nigel & List I am updating the BATES family who married into the Hutchins & Ban[m]bury family and I see that Alice Amy BATES dau of Alfred John BATES 1871-1950 (Born Ashford Hill) and Alice Mary PARSONS 1877-1969 (Born Landaff, Cardiff) married a Frank SMITH in Jun Qtr 1936 which I am led to believe took place in St. Catherine's Wolverton. Hi Bob and list, Clues yes, definite answer at this stage no. The assumption is that Frank Smith is from the local area. A possible is Frank Smith born to Henry and Rose Smith nee Butler in 1900 at Kingsclere.He is on FreeBMD but there are several more. Henry b ca 1863 Kingsclere and Rose b ca 1863 Baughurst are in the 1901 census living at Ashford Hill. Frank was the youngest and the recorded older children were all born at Brimpton. Henry and Rose married in 1885 FreeBMD Kingsclere 4Q 2c 491 but she is recorded as Rosanna Butler. The other pair are Kezia Bull and Robert Jones. Verification of the name of the father is needed from the 1936 marriage for Frank. There are several Franks who are possibles but I chose this one on closest geography. Henry Smith had parents James and Ann Smith nee Butler. The other Henry, Henry Thomas Smith b 1864 married Thriza Ann Olive Miles 23 Jul 1899 at St Paul, Kingsclere Woodlands. Thanks for the nudge to look at this one, it has found out what happened to Rose Butler b ca 1863 by working backwards. The confirmed identity of Frank Smith needs more work.
